  1. Do Different Brands have the Same Amount of Mini-marshmallows in a 10.5 Bag?

  2. Purpose The reason we are doing this project is to see if the 10.5 ounce bag has the same amount in different brands of marshmallows. Hypothesis We think that, yes, they will have the same amount because all nine bags are 10.5 ounces.

  3. The Materials 1. 3 10.5 ounce bags of Campfire mini-marshmallows. 2. 3 10.5 ounce bags of Clover Valley mini –marshmallows. 3. 3 10.5 ounce bags of IGA mini-marshmallows 4. 9 1 gallon bags to put marshmallows in. 5. 1 permanent marker to label the bags.

  4. The Procedures 1. We bought 3 10.5 bags of Campfire mini-marshmallows. 2. We bought 3 10.5 bags of Clover Valley mini-marshmallows. 3. We bought 3 10.5 bags of IGA mini-marshmallows. 4. Then, we counted the number of marshmallows in 1 10.5 ounce bag of Campfire and in 1 10.5 ounce bag of Clover Valley.

  5. The Procedures 5. Then, we asked for help from our classmates, and they helped us count the rest of the marshmallows in each bag. 6. After we counted the number of marshmallows in each bag, we recorded the totals. 7. After we were finished, we averaged the totals.

  6. Graphed Results

  7. Graphed Results - Average

  8. Conclusion Our hypothesis was wrong. We thought that they would have the same amount in the 10.5 ounce bag. We think maybe there could have been some miscounts, and that might be why the totals were different. If we were to do this experiment again, we would use same brands, but instead of mini-marshmallows we would use jumbo marshmallows.

  9. Acknowledgements We would like to thank Brandi Smith (Taylor’s mom) ,the mail carrier of the school and the high school, and Georgette Forbes, Kyli’s mom, for buying the marshmallows. Also, we would like to thank our classmates for helping us count marshmallows .
