Keep thyself pure

KEEP THYSELF PURE!

I Timothy 5:22

James 3:17

Titus 1:15

An anything goes society

An “Anything Goes” Society

  • “An exercise in self indulgence.”

  • “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.” Janice Joplin

  • How does the Christian behave in this kind of society?

  • “Keep thyself pure!”

Purity and the alcohol industry

Purity and the Alcohol Industry

  • Schools need the tax money. Health services need the tax money.

  • Should we poison our grandchildren for a dollar?

  • Prov. 23:29-35; Lev. 10:9

  • Rom. 13:13; Gal. 5:21; I Peter 4:3

  • “Methais” – drunken

  • “Komois” – excess, debauchery.

  • “Potios” – drinking party – anticipating getting “a buzz”. Reveling – inhibitions removed.

  • Do you know any one who drinks, who hasn’t been drunk?

Purity and marriage industry

Purity and Marriage (Industry)

  • Divorce rate. Adultery rate. Misery rate.

  • “No government has the right to bind two people together.”

  • The world is full of temptation and failure.

  • Yet – many “keep it together.” – Matt. 19

  • Prov. 7:7-27; Mal. 2:24

  • We need to be purists about marriage.

Purity and integrity

Purity and Integrity

  • Job 2:3 – Job is “whole”.

  • Any one can cheat. Lie. Steal. Set the wrong example.

  • In fact, most of us have.

  • When we become “whole” we’ll stop the sins.

  • Sometimes we’ll be insensitive, or insincere, or stupid, or we’ll misrepresent something.

  • But that’s not our intent. Intentionally we’re servants of God.

Purity and dress

Purity and “Dress”

  • I Timothy 2:9

  • How far do you trust men? Or women?

  • Jimmy and Linda.

  • Who do you ask about modesty? Your boyfriend?

  • Candy rots your teeth and makes you fat? Should we take it off the market?

  • Ask God.
