  1. Standards Based Assessment Jodi Pitts EDU 6613 Culminating Project Presentation June 4, 2011

  2. Having a clear purpose is a necessary element to all effective assessments. When the IEP process is initiated assessments by both the psychologist and special education teacher take place. These assessments determine the purpose for goals to be developed in the area(s) of need such as reading, written expression, math, social/ emotional/behavior, adaptive or cognition. Clear Purpose

  3. Targets Students IEP goals are the targets they must meet each year. A rubric was used by the student and myself to determine progress. Student’s seem to enjoy helping to determine their next step.

  4. SOUND DESIGN This is a math assessment created for our incoming second grade students to take in the fall. These same students take the test again in the spring. We use this to determine their growth over the course of the year. If they score at 80% or higher they take the next leveled test, in this case the student would move to the level 3 test.

  5. Progress reports are completed each quarter in order to inform parents of their child's progress. I also give a letter grade on students report cards. Teachers seem to prefer this method because the students are not usually in the classroom for these subject area (s). After reading the material presented in this course I realize there is more I can and should be doing to be a more effective communicator with parents, my students and staff. Effective communication
