AN OVERVIEW • Many women and non participants in the property sector consider the sector to only relate to residential property market; brokerage or construction • There is an inadequate focus on the multiple disciplines that contribute and support the property sector • There is a lack of exposure to the fundamentals of the property market. • Property is still an old boys club • There are mentorship and educational opportunities in the property market • There is a current shortage of skills in the various disciplines of the property sector • There is a lack of future mentors willing to grow individuals and interest in the property market due to the lack of avenues to do so properly and in conducive environments

WOMAN’S PROPERTY NETWORK • Established in 2000 to create a forum for woman in a predominantly male environment; to exchange information; increase networks and enhance professional success • National presence – JHB; CT; KZN WPN SEEKS TO PERFORM A NUMBER OF FUNCTIONS: • Enhance the image and profile of WPN as a dynamic, respected and influential national organisation within the property industry of South Africa. • Constructively and positively promote the role of women in the industry • Retain and attract into WPN diverse women from all areas of the property industry. • Through educational programmes to assist women to achieve economic self-sufficiency and promote the entry of more women into the property industry. • Transform WPN so that it fully reflects the geographics and requirements of our country • To support and encourage development and growth through mentorship programmes • Recognize and honor top women in the industry through the Five Star Women Awards • Promote interaction, participation and business opportunities through innovative networking activities • Practice good governance and be socially responsible

EDUCATION TRUST • An initiative which aims to harness the young potential within South Africa • WPN recognises it's role in developing and exposing female tertiary students to the property sector THE WPN EDUCATION TRUST HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO: • Identify worthy candidates for educational sponsorship of property degrees • Introduce these young candidates to WPN • Develop a pool of young blood into the industry • Currently have 7 students on Bursaries at UCT; WITS and UP and would like to see more applicants in KZN • They will all graduate with guaranteed employment because of the exposure to the market WPN has provided FROM THE TRUST: 2 FURTHER INITIATIVES HAVE BEEN BORN • Vacation Work Initiative • Meet the Expert Initiative • Feeder to the Mentorship Programme

MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME • Our vision is to create a dynamic environment for the upliftment and empowerment of professional women in the commercial property industry of South Africa • Mentoring relationships are a significant factor in succession planning, career development, skill development, as well as adding value to the transformation process – all key development areas for the commercial property environment and the women involved in it. • The greatest value of mentoring is that mentoring is the quickest way to transfer skills and accelerate empowerment in the workplace today, as well as create networks and pools of knowledge sharing that form part of our mission as an organisation

MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME Through the Mentorship Programme the following has been achieved: • The continued enhancement of the image and profile of the WPN as a the premium voice and association representing the development aims of women within the property industry of South Africa • The retention and attraction of expertise, talent and diversity • The expansion of our members’ knowledge bases by providing cutting edge industry information and self improvement skills • The promotion of interaction and participation through innovative, social, personal development and networking activities that speak to the objectives of this programme • Involving property leaders in giving back; to build a strong sector Gauteng (Johannesburg) – Launched 2008 – Phase 2 launched July 2010 Kwazulu – Natal (Durban) – Launched 2009 Western Cape (Cape Town) – Launched 2009 Process: Introduction – Workshop – Partnering – 6 to 8 month programme – Phase 2 / Mentor / Enhanced network

  7. RECOGNITION PROGRAMMES “FULL CIRCLE” • The WPN Five Star Woman and Rising Star Awards recognises exceptional women within the commercial property industry of South Africa. We look for women who epitomise the following attributes: • Role model • Possess specialist knowledge in their field • Have an established and extensive network • Are recognised and respected by their peers • Empowers women in the industry • To celebrate the women that have been nominated from each category in each of the major regions, cocktail events will be held on:   • 19 August Johannesburg   • 24 August – Durban • 26 August - Cape Town • The winners of the Five Star Woman and Rising Star Awards will be announced at a gala dinner in Johannesburg on 15 September 2010.

CALL TO ACTION • We are encouraged by the Annual Summits in recognition of the role women play • We would like to further engage both the DPWHS and the audience to participate at our regional & national platforms and in our programmes • KZN is a growth node & we need active participants and new role models • We develop specialist programmes; monitored and evaluated by consultants & professionals for and around our members • Do you have specific training/educational/network/access needs? ENGAGE US – our membership and support base truly opens doors • WPN would like to see interest translate to membership • We would like women in construction and property to engage us on how to make the membership and advocacy experience better
