  1. Trilateral Meeting Collection targets 16 June 2011 Washington

  2. Collection targets EPBA position 2005 • 25% after 4 years is ambitious but achievable • 45% after 8 years is not achievable, based on the current experience of battery collection in certain Member States • Target after 8 years should be set on the basis of that achieved in the 25 Member States after 4 years

  3. Collection targets • The level of the target should be realistic and achievable in the timeframe. • The targets should take account of the experience in those Member States that have been collecting batteries for a number of years. • It should be recognised that those Member States that do not have a history of battery collection would require a longer time to develop and set up an appropriate infrastructure and to educate the population than those that do.

  4. Collection targets 45% 25%

  5. Collection targets • Out of 27, Not all Member States will be able to reach the 25% collection target • Even less Member States will reach 45% •  This will even be a challenge for countries where the compliance schemes have a lot of experience

  6. Collection targets Key-concerns to reach the targets: • level of consumer awareness • geography • population density • Waste infrastructure

  7. Collection targets Other elements: • Producerscannot oblige consumer to bring back waste batteries • Hoarding of small EEE withincorporated batteries • Increase in internet sales e.g. mobile phones • Impact of Li-Ion batteries used in appliances • Limited amount of batteries comingfrom WEEE schemes • Incomplete data
