  1. Review For Test II Honors Alg II Fall 2013

  2. THE RULES • A question will be put on the board. Each group member should work individually to find the answer. (individual time will be given). Then the team must compare answers and decide on a final answer. • The teams will the correct final answer will come up to the board to toss for points. • The team with the most points wins a mystery prize…….

  3. Solve the Linear System by Graphing

  4. Answer

  5. Solve the Absolute Value Equation for the given variable. Check for extraneous solutions if necessary

  6. Answer • You needed to check for extraneous, because there was an x outside of the absolute value. • Solution: x= 1.5,7

  7. Graph the Absolute Value Equation

  8. Graph • Vertex: (-3,1) • Open down because a<0

  9. Solve the System using a calculator. Show your matrix and the answer.

  10. Answer • (0,-2,6)

  11. What is the vertex of the graph below?

  12. Answer • Since there is no h value or k value they vertex is at (0,0)

  13. Graph the System of Inequalities. Use shading to show the solution area.

  14. Graph

  15. Would you chose to solve this using substitution or elimination? Why?

  16. Answer • You would most likely want to chose elimination. You cannot easily solve for one variable to perform substitution. Also, since the coefficient for x is the same, in order to eliminate you would only need to multiply one equation by (-1).

  17. Solve using Elimination

  18. Answer • (9,-4) • If I were doing this problem, I would eliminate the x. I would do this by multiplying the first equation by two and the second equation by -3.

  19. Solve the Inequality. Plot your solution on the number line.

  20. Answer

  21. Solve the system using substitution

  22. Answer • (-7,-4)

  23. Graph the Absolute Value Inequality

  24. Graph

  25. Solve the Inequality. Plot your solution on the number line.

  26. Answer • x ≤ -13x ≥ -9

  27. Graph the System of Inequalities. Use shading to show the solution area.

  28. Graph

  29. What is the Vertex?

  30. Answer • Vertex: (-1,-3)

  31. Solve the Absolute Value Equation. Check for extraneous solutions if necessary.

  32. Answer • Solution (-1/3) • The other solution found is extraneous.

  33. Solve the System using a calculator. Show your matrix and the answer.

  34. Answer • Pt (2,6,-5)

  35. Solve the system using elimination.

  36. Answer • These are actually equations of the same line. Therefore our solution is all real numbers.

  37. Solve the system using substitution

  38. Answer • (1,-2)

  39. Graph the system of inequalities. Use shading to show the solution area.

  40. Graph

  41. Graph the Absolute Value Inequality.

  42. Graph

  43. Solve the inequality for the given variable. Use a number line to graph your solution.

  44. Answer • X< .5 • X> 9.5

  45. Given the problem below would you solve using elimination or substitution? Why?

  46. Answer • Substitution would be a better option here. In the first equation, the variable y has a coefficient of 1. This makes it easy to solve for y and sub into the second equation to find x.
