  1. TIP OF THE WEEK - January 27, 2014 How does OWCP address “Group Claims”?

  2. Answer: • “When possible, where two or more employees are injured in the same incident, such as an explosion or auto accident, or by the same substance, such as contaminated drinking water, the entire group of cases should be adjudicated by the same CE in order to ensure uniformity of action.” (FECA PM) • Due to the Case create procedures the District offices are not able to control the case numbers assigned. Therefore the appropriate district office will need to be made aware of the group claim so that all claims can be properly assigned. The following steps will assist OWCP to identify and re-assign the claims. • As soon as you enter the claims for the Group contact your district liaison • Provide the names and SSN of the claimant’s involved • Your liaison will advise OWCP • OWCP will then make the assignment once the claim # has been created. • These steps may not be appropriate for all District offices. Please contact your liaison for details. REFERENCE: FECA PM: 2-0800 Initial Development of Claims para. 12.
