  2. Because of You AND Georgia Students are getting what they need… We know more about the needs of Georgia Students…

  3. Because of YOU, we now know: • 25,655 Freshmen are overage, within a year of being able to legally drop out of school (approximately 18% of freshmen); • 42,166 Second, Third and Fourth Year Students are Credit Deficient, not on track to graduate with their cohort (approximately 11%); • Nearly 5,000 seniors are in their 5th year or more of high school.

  4. How those Students are being Helped: • OVER 20,000 Freshmen are taking part in Freshmen academies or transition programs; • OVER 10,000 students are taking part in credit recovery programs; • OVER 16,000 students are taking part in tutoring programs.

  5. Because of YOU, we now know: • Many Students need extra support to pass the GHSGT • 4,686 failed the Language Arts Portion • 7,677 failed the Math Portion • 24,123 failed the Science Portion • 13,459 failed the Social Studies Portion • 4,944 failed the Writing Portion

  6. How those Students are being Helped: • 2,650 Students Received Individualized GHSGT Tutoring; • 9,894 Students Received GHSGT Tutoring in Small Groups; • 8,125 Students Received Whole School Graduation Test Services.

  7. Because of YOU, we now know: • Too Many Students are Missing Too Many Days of School. During the 2006 school year: • 43,535 missed between 10 and 14 days of school; • 53,441 missed 15 or more days of school.

  8. How those Students are being Helped: • 16,000 students are being reached through school-wide incentive programs to help improve their attendance; • Another 2,000 students are working on their attendance in individual and group sessions.

  9. Because of YOU: • 23,507 Students have started an individualized Peach State Pathways Plan for their future: • 5,837 Freshmen • 3,670 Sophomores • 5,296 Juniors • 8,704 Seniors

  11. Kim Barham knows: • Pressures outside of school can motivate a student to drop out – with support, flexibility, and a little push you can help students make the RIGHT choice.

  12. Dorcas Powellknows: • Students lose hope because they aren’t always aware of the options that are available to them, knowledge IS power.

  13. Dwayne Wigginsknows: • Parents aren’t always aware that their children are struggling academically. When provided with information, many WILL take action.

  15. Erin Bassknows: • When presented with a workable opportunity for a second chance, students CAN turn their lives around.
