  2. WALT • To explore methods of secondary research • To produce an introduction to your project Starter: List where you will find secondary research

  3. Methods of Research • Research can be primary research or secondary research. • Primary research is done by the individual themselves • Secondary research has been carried out by someone else

  4. Secondary Research • Researchers often use secondary data in their own research studies. This is data that has been collected and analysed by another person • Data from earlier research, official statistics and documents are the main sources of data used in health and social care research projects

  5. Strengths/ Weaknesses • The main weakness of secondary data is that its validity and reliability is not assured and researchers can not guarantee that documentary sources are not inherently biased. • The ability to read and understand statistical graphs and tables is an important skill all researchers should develop. This is essential for making an assessment of the quality of secondary statistical data.

  6. Research Your Topic • Carry out Secondary research on your chosen topic using different sources; • Books (Library) • Magazines/ Newspapers • TV programmes or documentaries • Websites; www.cliconline.co.uk • www.bbc.co.uk • www.nhs.co.uk

  7. Task 1 • Research your topic • For the introduction you should include what your project is about. The general causes, consequences, public opinion etc • Write IN YOUR OWN WORDS – This section will be roughly 500 words
