  7. When we change direct speech into indirect speech. We should pay attention to the following rules A. connecting words (关联词) • 直接引语是陈述句时,间接引语是由连词 • that引导,that常可省略。 1.He said, “I’m a doctor.” → He said (that) he was a doctor. 2.She said to me, “I’m studying English these days.” →She told me that she was studying English those days .

  8. 2.直接引语是一般问句,选择问句,反问句时, 间接引语是由whether/if引导。 She asked, “Are you preparing for it ?” →She asked whether/if we were preparing for it . 3.直接引语是特殊问句时,间接引语为原来连 接代/副词引导。 He asked, “Which one do you like best?” →He asked which one I liked best . 陈述句语气。 B. word order

C. verb tense 当主句的谓语动词是过去时时,宾语从句中 的时态要向过去推一个时态。 1.He said, “ I am afraid I can’t finish this work.” →He said (that) he wasafraid he couldn’t finish this work. 2.He said, “ I’musing the knife.” →He said (that) he was using the knife. 3.She said to me, “I have not heard from him since May.” →She told me (that) she had not heard from him since May.

  10. 4.He said, “ I came to help you.” →He said (that) he had cometo help me. 5.He said to her, “ I had finished my homework before supper.” →He told her (that) he had finished his homework before supper. 6.Zhou Lan said, “ I’ll do it after class.” → Zhou Lan said (that) she would do it after class.

He will say, “I will join the army when I grow up.” →He will say that he will join the army when he grows up. 2.My father said to me ,“I was born in 1945.” →My father told me that he was born in 1945. 3.The teacher said to the pupils, “The earth is round.” →The teacher told the pupils that the earth is round.

  13. 一主二宾三不变 D. personal pronoun 1.Tom said to me, “I have left my book in your room.” → Tom told me that he had left his book in my room. 2.Mary said to me , “The boy can look after himself” → Mary told me that the boy could look after himself. 注意: 如没有逻辑宾语时,暗中加上 “me 或us”

  14. E. adverbials of place and time. Observe the sentences and find what has changed 1.She said, “ I will come here this morning.” →She said (that) she would go there that morning. 2.He asked me, “Is it nine o’clock now?” →He asked me whether/ if it was nine o’clock then.

  15. 3.Tom asked Jane, “Have you brought your book here today?” →Tom asked Jane whether /if she had taken her book there that day 4.He asked, “What did you do yesterday?” →He asked (me) what you did/had done the day before. 5.He asked, “ Will you go there tomorrow?” → He asked (me) whether /if I would go there the next/following day.

  17. Think it over how to change the following. Last night/ Sunday… these days, next week/Monday… tonight, this year, tomorrow morning/ afternoon… the night/ Sunday… before those days, the next week/Monday… that night, that year, the next morning/ afternoon… 注:如直接引语要变为间接引语,但如转述发生 在当天、当地的事, 这些词不必改变。 This morning he said ,“He’ll come here tomorrow.” →This morning he said that he would /will comeheretomorrow.

The daughter told her father that mum had gone to the supermarket. 5 “Why were you so excited today?” Tom asked Bob. Tom asked Bob why he had been so excited that day.
