Working Together - Background • Mersey Joint Venture for Decontamination Services • collapsed in 2009 • Both WWL and SRFT needed to find a compliant • and cost effective solution to provide • decontamination service to all theatres which were • also intending to increase activity. • Timescale was March 2011. • Trusts agreed to work together to find a solution

  4. Working Together - Challenges • Location of facility • Retaining the experienced staff • Maintaining the service • Agree who would be the host employer • Joint Management Board • Trade Unions (GMB and Unison) • Attendance Patterns • TUPE Transfer – two workforces • Tight Timescales

  5. Working Together – The Approach • Identification of facility – greenfield site • Joint Management Board • WWL as host employer • Engagement with clinical colleagues,operational management teams, finance, HR, employees and staff representatives

Working Together - Engagement • Communicate • Communicate • Communicate • Openness and Honesty • Clear project plan with timescales • Engagement with Clinicians/stakeholders • Engagement with unions - honesty • Monthly briefing session with staff and unions • Staff Consultation meetings • Site Visits

Working Together – Lessons Learned • Start engagement with all stakeholders as early as possible • Communicate even when there is nothing further to say • Build relationships • Try to head of any issues before they happen • Don’t expect it all to go to plan • Make sure there is a good understanding of the challenges and potential restrictions by all stakeholders.

  8. Working Together – Future Aspirations • Collaborative Working • Further Joint Ventures • Shared Resources • Retaining independence but working together
