  2. Summary While it is a common belief that the grey-haired generation is not familiar with technology this is simply not true. Today’s seniors are keeping pace with the latest technology. Below we have listed how technology can enrichlives in assisted living.

  3. Seniors and Technology Gone are the days when grandpa was thought to be computer illiterate. Nowadays, our seniors have been catching up with the young and are keen to learn new technology to enhance their lives. According to a survey by Pew Research, the number of older adults using technology and computer has increased over the years. The survey further says that 30 percent of adults age 65 or above own a smartphone while 35 percent of them have a tablet and 55 percent have computer or laptop. It means that seniors are more tech-savvy than ever before.

  4. How Technology is Beneficial for Seniors at Assisted Living Many assisted living facilities have introduced technology programs to educate their residents. Seniors have Facebook accounts and Skype to communicate with their loved ones. They use iPad apps to play Solitaire, chess and other games to keep their minds active.

  5. Quality of Care Over 70 percent of assisted living facilities in the US are equipped with automated equipment like electronic medical records and point of care. These equipment enhance security and efficiency in taking care of resident’s health information. There are many assisted living facilities that are using technologies to support their wellness programs like physical rehabilitation and fitness.

  6. Internet Access across the Community: Many senior living facilities haves started providing internet community across their premises. This may be because of the residents bringing their tablets, smartphones and digital devices when they move into assisted living residences. From learning, social media, entertainment and paying bills, today’s seniors need a fast internet connection. Many senior communities have installed Wi-Fi networks for their residents and team members.

  7. Improved Security Besides enhancing the care level, technology has been playing an important role in making the premises even more secure. Residents can simply press a button and get a timely emergency response across the senior living campus.

  8. Easy Communication with Loved Ones: Given the Wi-Fi availability across the campus, many residents are using social media networks and Skype or Face time to stay in touch with their loved ones. Many senior living communities have started providing training to their residents on the use of video chatting.

  9. Entertainment Video games have been shown to improve cognition, mental agility and even physical health for seniors. This is why many assisted living facilities are promoting the use of video games for seniors. The use of technology is beneficial for seniors living at assisted living facilities. If you’re considering a move to a senior living community, make sure to ask what devices and technology are available at there.
