RECAP • Standards-Based Units: instructional plan that deliberately focuses on a group of prioritized standards and uses essential questions, pre- and post-assessments, and a daily sequence of engaging instructional activities to teach the standards during a specified time. • BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND

RECAP • 10 Steps for Writing a Standards-Based Unit • Step 1 – Choose Topic Carefully • Step 2 – Identify and Chunk Standards and Readiness Indicators • Step 3 – Write the Essential Questions • Step 4 – Plan the Post-Assessment Test and Task • Step 5 – Brainstorm Possible Resources • Step 6 – Choose Literacy Strategies • Step 7 – Choose the Habits of Success for the Unit

  4. Step 8 – Plan Each Day‘s Lesson • Jigsaw Activity • You will have 5 minutes to internalize the given material • You will then have 2 minutes per page of material to report your information to the group.

  5. Step 8 – Plan Each Day‘s Lesson • We will report in the following order: • Get Started • Engage • Explore • Explain • Practice Together • Practice in Teams/Groups/Pairs • Practice Alone • Evaluate Understanding • Closing • Discussion

  6. Homework • Plan the first 4 lessons of your unit. (This homework will get you more credit hours than any previous assignments.) • Sample plan sheet is in your SIOP booklet . The literacy team will give your directions about how and when to submit the 4 daily lessons. • Due as soon as you can finish it. • Next assignment will be to teach the unit. (Step 9) • You will be observed during the teaching to earn the rest of your literacy renewal credit.
