  3. DEFINITION Mentor: ONE WHO BINDS HIMSELF TO ANSWER FOR ANOTHER; ONE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANOTHER’S DEFAULT

  4. BIBLICAL BASIS Ephesians 4:16 “From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”

  5. MENTOR/PROTEGE RELATIONSHIP Each one equips, after being equipped by one!

  6. THE CRITICAL PATH . . . 1. We feel there must be more participation by every Cell Member in equipping others. 2. The Mentor/ Protégé system is effective to bond the new Cell Member to the Cell and to one special helping person.

  7. JESUS’ CELL GROUP The group was impacted by: • His modeling • Mutual sharing • Teachable moments • Mutual learning from one another

  8. ACCOUNTABLE & RESPONSIBLE • Not solving his problems • Not making decisions for him • But loving support ACCOUNTABLE TO.. RESPONSIBLE FOR..

  28. PRINCIPLES THE PRINCIPLES OF MENTORING:

  29. PRINCIPLES IN MENTORING 1. Remember the “hula hoop” principle 2. Don’t solve the protégé’s problems 3. Never give or loan money directly to the protégé

  30. PRINCIPLES IN MENTORING 4. Help the protégé make final decisions alone 5. Remind the protégé that walking in victory is a choice 6. Explain that “you never fail until you quit”

  31. THE EQUIPPING TRACK THE EQUIPPING JOURNEY:

  32. THE JOURNEY STARTS • A new convert or a believer visits the cell group • The person commits to become a cell member

  33. THE JOURNEY STARTS • The cell leader presents him or her with a copy of the Journey Guide • The new cell member prayerfully completes the Journey Guide on his own

  34. THE CELL LEADER VISITS The new cell member is visited by the cell leader and a Mentor, Prayerfully selected from the cell.

  35. THE CELL LEADER VISITS A “Journey Map” is prepared. The Mentor will help the new member get started on this Equipping Journey.

  36. EQUIPPING JOURNEY If the protégé is a new believer: • Present the Beginning the Journeybooklet • Schedule5weekly visits • Use the Mentor’s Guide found in the back of Beginning the Journey

  37. EQUIPPING JOURNEY • New cell member  attends“Spiritual Formation Weekend” • New believer is then baptized

  38. EQUIPPING JOURNEY • Protégé obtains a copy of the Arrival Kit • Schedule 11 weekly visits • Mentor uses mentor’s guide at the back of the Arrival Kit

  39. EQUIPPING JOURNEY • Protégé now becomes a Mentor of an incoming person • Mentoring Another Christian is obtained and worked through

  40. EQUIPPING JOURNEY The Mentor and Protégé now team up as partners to attend the Touching Hearts Training
