  1. Ark Secondary Academies Update

  2. The Restructure To create two sustainable academies that will deliver improved educational outcomes. Establish a strong academic 6th Form that fulfils a need for 16 – 19 year olds in Hastings. To create a structure that brings both academies into a close and effective partnership that maximises our impact and appeal to the Hastings community.

  3. Educational Outcomes • A Level results showed improvement in all key measures. The overall pass rate was 97.2%, 42% of which were A*-B. • Ark Helenswood GCSE results showed significant improvement with 62% (up from 51%) of the students gaining 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths. • Ark William Parker results also improved with 50% (up from 42%) of the students gaining five A*-C grades including English and Maths.

  4. Priorities To secure improved rates of progress for all students. To have a strong focus on the broad educational development of the most disadvantaged of our students. To focus on the professional development of teachers to secure a higher proportion of good or better lessons. To secure productive working relationships with our educational partners in Hastings that benefit the wider community.

  5. Challenges The recruitment and retention of outstanding teachers and leaders. Meeting the needs of a rising number of students with increasingly complex social, emotional and behavioural problems when provision is not expanding in line with demand.
