  1. Media Timeline By: David Ricketts

  2. Typewriter • 1714 first typewriter patented by Henry Mill in England.

  3. Printing Press • Printing Press started in 1811. • A printing press is a device for evenly printing ink onto a print medium (substrate) such as paper or cloth. The device applies pressure to a print medium that rests on an inked surface made of movable type, thereby transferring the ink. Typically used for texts, the invention and spread of the printing press are widely regarded as among the most influential events in human history, revolutionizing the way people conceive and describe the world they live in, and ushering in the period of modernity.

  4. Radio • The radio was invented in 1830’s • Radio is the radiation of electromagnetic signals through the atmosphere or free space. Radio is actually the combining form of radiant but the process originally called radiotelegraphy has become so common that it is nearly always called just 'radio' and the associated electromagnetic waves are called radio waves.

  5. Movies • The history of film began in the 1890’s. • Preceding film in origin by thousands of years, early plays and dances had elements common to film: scripts, sets, costumes, production, direction, actors, audiences, storyboards, and scores. Much terminology later used in film theory and criticism apply, such as mise en scene (roughly, the entire visual picture at any one time). Owing to the lack of any technology for doing so, the moving images and sounds could not be recorded for replaying as with film.

  6. Newspaper • The newspaper began in 1918. • Anewspaper is aperiodical publication containing news, other informative articles , and usually advertising. A newspaper is usually printed on relatively inexpensive, low-grade paper such as newsprint. General-interest newspapers typically publish news articles and feature articles on national and international news as well as local news.

  7. Audio Tape • In 1935 was the introduction of the cassette. • In 1935, decades before the introduction of the Compact Cassette, AEG released the first reel-to-reel tape, with the commercial name "Magnetophon", based on the invention of the magnetic tape (1928) by Fritz Pfleumer, which used similar technology but with open reels.

  8. television • T.V was invented in 1958. •  the 1950s, television became the primary medium for molding public opinion. Then, in the mid-1960s, color television became more widely available.

  9. CD’s • In 1982 the CD’s came out. • The Compact Disc is an evolution of Laserdisc technology. Prototypes were developed by Philips and Sony independently from the mid-to-late 1970s. The two companies then collaborated to produce a standard format and related player technology which was made commercially available in 1999.

  10. DVD’s • The DVD’s was invented in 1995. • Before the advent of DVD in 1995, Video CD(VCD) became one of the first formats for distributing digitally encoded films on standard 120 mm (4.7 in) optical discs. (Its predecessor, CD Video, used analog video encoding.)
