  2. Crayola • Dance and Drawing are creative ways to teach students how to read and write. The connections between the arts and literacy, support children's growth in reading and writing. • By integrating the arts in the curriculum, children learn to read and write in ways that are both appealing and effective.

  3. The Kennedy Center • Designed to assist arts and cultural organizations throughout the nation to develop and/or expand educational partnerships with their local school systems. • The program is based on the belief that educating teachers is an essential component of any effort designed to increase the artistic literacy of young people.

  4. Center for the Arts • Programs at this organization include: *New York City Public Schools *Cultural Institutions *Performing and Visual Arts Companies *Arts Education Organizations Museums.

  5. Toft Center for the Arts • This program strengthens the learning and understanding of what elementary school children read in class. • Movements are taught to express character, conflict, setting and other story components through their own movements and dance expressions. • They also conduct outreach programs for students who are not exposed to dance.

  6. New York City Ballet • The New York City Ballet has a strong Education Program. There programs include: • *Backstage at the Ballet • *Ballet Bridges Elementary (The Nutcracker Project) • *Ballet Bridges Middle School • *High School (NYCB Workout) • *Elementary/High School Working Day • *The Art in Teaching Professional Development Initiative (For Teachers)

  7. Conclusion • Contrary to beliefs literacy can be learned through movement. • Children learn better when they are in motion or have something to relate too.
