Essay Outline (6) • Major league baseball players who have used steroids should pay a price for cheating. • Identify players who have used steroids. • Kick users out of the game and put asterisks next to the names of drug users who broke records. • Young fans will get the message that steroid users will be punished.

  2. Paragraph One (Intro) • Baseball players caught using steroids should be punished. Steroid users can be identified in a number of ways. Once they have been found out, they should pay a price for cheating. Then, future players will be discouraged from breaking the rules.

  3. Paragraph Two (Body) • There are numerous ways to identify steroid users in baseball. Drug tests and the testimony of witnesses can be useful in nabbing users. Before-and-after photographs can show how a player has unnaturally bulked up. Players who suddenly start hitting homers in record numbers near the end of their careers give away their drug use. Before steroid use, most players set records at the beginning of their careers. A panel of judges could weigh evidence and decide which players are drug abusers.

  4. Paragraph Three (Body) • Once identified, steroid users should be kicked out of the game. Baseball needs to show that it’s serious about cleaning up the sport. Players should be forced to take an early retirement if they can’t follow the rules. Those who have used steroids to break records should have an asterisk placed after their names to indicate they had an unfair advantage over honest players.

  5. Paragraph Four (Body) • By punishing steroid users, baseball will show future players that it’s serious about policing the game. Young players will get the message that illegal drug use has negative consequences. They’ll know that if they get caught cheating, they’ll be banned from the sport just like their tarnished heroes.

  6. Paragraph Five (Conclusion) • To sum up, major league baseball players caught using steroids must pay the price for cheating. Once found out, they should be kicked out of the game. Record holders who used steroids should have an asterisk put next to their name to indicate that they cheated to get their records. After seeing their heroes punished, young fans will surely learn the lesson that cheating with steroids won’t be tolerated.
