  2. HISTORY The Military School of Equitation

  3. HISTORY The Military School of Equitation In Mafra, between 1840 and 1859, using the Royal Stables adjacent to the Palace, the Mafra Stud Farm was installed, in order to complement the Royal Herds of Alter do Chão.

  4. HISTORY The Military School of Equitation After the assassination of King Carlos I in 1908, it became the Army Remount Reserve. In 1950 it became the Military School of Equitation.

  5. HISTORY The Military School of Equitation Throughout the decades, 1952 to 1995, the Escola de Mafra was the only school where Monitors, Instructors or Masters of Equitation could be qualified in Portugal.

  6. HISTORY • The explosive increase in the number of civilians beginning to riding, • National requirement that all Sports facilities had to have a Technically Responsible person, of Level II or above, • Created a great lack of people with the correct qualifications, for the country needs.

  7. HISTORY The Portuguese Equestrian Federation (FEP) started to take measures to regularise the training of teachers and proficient riders.

  8. HISTORY Creating a department of equine education, to which was given the internal title of Escola Nacional de Equitação – ENE – already with the idea that it could be given autonomous jurisdiction, as soon as it became possible.

  9. ENE • Provides: • The decentralisation of the places of training, leading students to attend localised Study Centres, instead of requiring them to travel great distances to attend a central facility;

  10. Teaching Centres Are designated within the National Network of the Federated Riding Schools and selected by the ENE on the basis of the quality and dimensions of their facilities and the equestrian resources.

  11. ACTUALY The Portuguese Institute for Sport (IPDJ) decided to create a national system for the education of all teachers in all sport activities, calling them all “TRAINERS”

  12. ACTUALY So, the National Trainers Formation Program includes all the sport disciplines and equitation as well.

Inicial requirements Formation Qualification • Minimum 18 years old • Level 2 of the EQF • Specific examinations • Have a place to make the training post Level 1 Trainers Formation Program Conducting elementary technical activities, under the supervision of superior trainers or assisting training and competition on the subsequent stages

Inicial requirements Formation Qualification 1 year of Professional experience as Level 1 Trainer 12 hours /Year of formation • Minimum 18 years old • Level 3 of the EQF • To be a level 1 trainer Training by himself or assisting trainers of superior level. Coordinate and supervise level 1 and 2 technical training teams. Level 2 Trainers Formation Program

Inicial requirements Formation Qualification 2 years of Professional experience as Level 2 Trainer 15 hours /Year of formation • Minimum 18 years old • Level 3 of the EQF • To be a level 2 trainer Be able to plan exercises and evaluate the performance of level 1, 2 and 3. Coordinate and supervise different training and competition activities, specially on high performance athletes. Level 3 Trainers Formation Program

Inicial requirements Formation Qualification 3 years of Professional experience as Level 3 Trainer 20 hours /Year of formation Coordinate, direct, plan and evaluate all the training and competition activities. Innovation, direction, and selection tasks. • Minimum 18 years old • Level 3 of the EQF • To be a level 3 trainer Level 4 25 hours/ Year of formation to renew the Certification, after 5 years of activity Trainers Formation Program

  18. ACTUALY • Meanwhile, since 2010 all the formation has stopped until now, when the programs according to the new National Trainer Formation Program are approved by the IPDJ. • The only courses allowed to happen are the ones that already started in 2010. • We have just started the Level 1 formation!
