The 15-state Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM) Consortium is working to improve academic outcomes for approximately 1.3 million K-12 students with print disabilities within the member States through the timely acquisition and delivery of high-quality educational materials in accessible formats (audio, Braille, eText, large print).

Global Navigation Window(left side of screen)

The Global Navigation window has 2 tabs:

  • Headings tab (contains book index or page numbers)

  • Annotations tab (contains bookmarks, notes)

Text View Window

The Text View window displays the contents of the book being read.

User Profiles

When starting Victor Reader Soft, the “User Profile” window opens.

User Profiles let you save custom audio and display settings.

User 1 profile might be used to save settings for a person with visual impairments.

User 2 profile might have settings for a sighted person who needs text highlighting.

Create a new User

Click the “ADD” button.

Highlight the new User.

Click “OK”

Customize settings for new User profile

Use the Settings menu to choose program features for this User Profile.

  • Choose display Settings

  • Choose audio Settings

Add books to Favorites

  • Click the Open Book toolbar button

  • Use Browse path button to locate a book on your computer.

  • Click “add to favorites”

Note: The goal is to add all books that are currently being used into the “Favorites” area.

To open a book

Click the “Open Book” button

Highlight “Favorites” in the Source box (you’ve already added all current books here)

From the booklist, highlight the book you want to read, and click

Reading a book

Once a book has been opened, you may use the Play/Stop button to begin and pause the reading.

Volume and rate of speech may be adjusted using these tool buttons:

Navigate using the Global Navigation window

Using the “Headings” tab

Double-click on the section of the book you want to read.

Navigate using Page tools

In the toolbar, you may type in a page number and click “Go” (Green light icon). Or, you may use the Page arrows to move one page forward or backward.

Navigate by “Elements”

To navigate by “Elements”, open the Navigation Menu, highlight “Navigation Elements”, and choose an element (Level 1, page, phrase, sentence, etc)

Use the left and right arrows on your keyboard to move to the previous or next element.

Navigate by Annotations

Annotations include bookmarks, highlights and text notes that have been added by the user.

Using the Annotations menu, you may move to any of these markers.

Customizing Audio

Go to the Settings menu and highlight Audio to change the audio options.

For example, sighted users may want to silence the application messages that are used by persons with vision impairments. To do so, choose “Messages”, then click “No Speech”

Customizing the text Display

Use the Settings menu to highlight Display options, including text highlighting, font size, etc.

Adding Annotations

Bookmarks, highlights and text notes are all called “annotations.” Use the Annotations Menu, or the annotation toolbar tools to insert or go to annotations.

Bookmark and text note tools are also found in the toolbar.

Text Synchronization

Text may be highlighted as it is read aloud. Use the Settings menu, choose “Display”, then “text synchronization”

Select the type of highlighting you want.
