  10. My advice • Read your course syllabus!!! I have written it especially for you. • Come to class on time. • The syllabus course schedule has important dates & reminders. (let’s take a look)

  11. Preparing for class • Full version of the text is fine. • The customized version is probably less expensive. • Please note the customized text does NOT have chapter numbers

  12. Preparing for class • Buy the book if you have not already OR use one on reserve in the library. • You will need a book to PREPARE for almost every class meeting! • There are NO GOOD EXCUSES for not having access to a book.

  13. Preparing for class • Take a look at the course schedule(in syllabus) • Access course slides from course website. • Use a book to answer the questions on slides that have a question mark.

  14. Preparing for class HOW TO FIND THE COURSE WEBSITE & ACCESS SLIDES COURSE WEBSITE: http://misweb.cbi.msstate.edu/ ***We use MISWEB (NOT mycourses)***

  15. Click button under “online grades” NOT course website

  16. Select correct class AND section

  17. PREPARING FOR CLASS Sample Questions from PowerPoint Slides • What is a line employee? • What is a staff employee? • Which is more specific – a humanresources strategy or a human resource tactic? A question mark in the bottom corner of a slide indicates you need to look up the answer in your book; I will call on you during class so be prepared!!!

  18. PREPARING FOR CLASS My thoughts on how to be organized… • Get a binder. • Print out slides in notes page view • *Only1 slide per page with • room to take notes*

  19. PREPARING FOR CLASS My thoughts on learning strategies… • Answer questions BEFORE class. • During class, take notes in a different COLOR.

  20. Just a thought: Print slides in Notes View 1. Write your answers below slide in one color 2. Take notes during class in another color

  21. MAKING THE GRADE Course Activities • 3 Exams* (135 points each) = 405 • Class participation = 15 • Total points = 420 *Final exam will replace lowest grade if you take all exams. Set goals for your course grade and each exam.

  22. MAKING THE GRADE Grade Determination Scale 90 % and above = A (378 to 420 points) 80% to 89.99% = B (336 to 377 points) 70% to 79.99% = C(294 to 335 points) 60% to 69.99% = D(252 to 293 points) 0 to 59.99% = F(0 to 251 points)

  23. MAKING THE GRADE My goal = fairness • Grades are based on your individual performance rather than effort, personality, potential, or need. • No student’s final grade will be increased for any reason other than calculation error. • Please do not ask for extra credit or a higher grade at the END of the semester.

  24. Make-up exams & final exam • My advice is to take ALL exams. • Comprehensive final exam is optional unless you have missed an exam. • Let’s discuss the final exam time.* * Final exam time is based on MSU’s exam schedule.

  25. PARTICIPATION & PROFESSIONALISM • You will be given participation15 points at the beginning of the semester. • Participation will be evaluated each time the class meets. • Class participation & professionalism= registering for MISWEB + giving correct answers to assigned discussion questions on slides + participating in class activities + course assignment

  26. PARTICIPATION & PROFESSIONALISM • Missing one class period may result in losing several participation points. • Each student will receive 1 “free pass” for a participation activity. • The free pass will not be reflected in your grade until the END of the semester. • Each time you miss an activity, participation question, or homework assignment, 1 point will be deducted from your grade. • Participation grades will be updated on MISWEB periodically (after each exam).

  27. participation & professionalism HOW TO SEND AN E-MAIL
