Physical Therapy in Taiwan Since 1950s, currently around 4000 in active, 100 in sports(part-time)‏ 10 accredited Bachelor ’s program 1600 graduates/year <300 licensed/year (20%)‏ 40% concentrated in ortho <10% (20) in sports medicine Several graduate institutes (MS & PhD), no MPT or DPT Professional organizations PTAROC Federation of PT Associations

  11. TW AT Tasks / Missions Health management Sports injury prevention Recognition, Evaluation, & First-Aid Care and rehabilitation Plan and perform the post-injury training When involving medical treatments, have to follow MD’s orders / instructions, or be supervised.

  12. Unique Limited use of physical modalities USD, ES, mechanical traction, etc. Occasional uses of traditional techniques Acupuncture, herbal steam, traditional massage, etc.

  17. Government Endorsed Certification Regulations–cont’d Definition “… who performs the tasks, and is certified.” Tasks: Very similar to what’s in USA & Canada Targeted job markets: educational institute, sports team, health center, etc. Very few in the hospital / clinic
