  1. Atal Tinkering Lab: Bring STEM in Mainstrem NITI Ayog, the National Institution for Transforming India, strives to make India a knowledge and innovation hub. Realizing the need to create an environment to develop an interest in science and technology, it has formed Atal Innovation Mission (AIM). In order to cultivate curiosity and innovation among younger generation, AIM has planned to establish a network of Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) across schools. The vision of the government of India with this initiative is to nurture 1 million children in the country to become Neoteric Innovators. It is an outstanding step towards creating a new India with the skills to compete at the global level. Atal Tinkering Labs across schools The objective with the establishment of ATL is to foster curiosity, imagination, and creativity in young minds. At the same time, the aim with this scheme is also to inculcate skills such as conceptual thinking, physical computing and adaptive learning among students. While working in these labs, students get to use a variety of tools and equipment which take them closer to various aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – collectively known as STEM. The scope of learning STEM in India was initially very low, but the demand for it is mushrooming gradually. However, there’s one more aspect of it – the engagement of girls

  2. in STEM. Girls are less likely to pursue a career in STEM due to male dominance in the field. Some significant developments should be done in this regard to encourage more girls to opt for STEM education, and create an equilibrium. STEM Education in India is more about educating boys than girls. This deeply embedded patriarchy must end in the country if necessary developments are to be made in popularizing technology and innovation. This is possible only if STEM education is introduced since elementary level and families support boys as well as their girls. In addition to government’s contribution in establishing STEM Labs and providing necessary infrastructural support, steps should also be taken.
