  3. Quick facts • The population in Scotland is roughly about 6 million • The capital city is Edinburgh • The area of Scotland is 78,387 kilometres • Many people speak slang but English is the language

  4. Scottish Sports • Highland Games – at the highland games the sports are caber toss and the shot put. • Shinty is a big sport in Scotland • Shinty teams- Fort William, Glasgow Mid Argyle,Lovat.

William Wallace • William Wallace was so famous a movie was made. • William Wallace was the leader of the army who fought against the English. • William Wallace was captured in Robroyston which is near Glasgow. • His greatest victory was the battle of Stirling where 7000 Scots defeated 18000 Englishmen. • There are many monuments around Scotland for William Wallace • Wallace was executed in 1305

Robert Burns is widely regarded as the Scottish national poet • His famous poems include “A Red, Red Rose” , “Tam O’shanter”, “To a Mouse”, “Scot Wha Hae”. • Robert Burns was born on the 25th January 1759 in Alloway, Ayrshire and died on the 21st of July 1796 (aged 37). Robert burns On the day of his birth we celebrate his great poetic master class. On the day people eat haggis to celebrate his heritage.

  8. Saint Andrew. Saint Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland also Romania, Greece and Russia. Saint Andrew’s day is on the 30th of November and is a day to celebrate Scottish culture, food and dance. Saint Andrew was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. Saint Andrew’s flag is the Saltire flag which is the flag of Scotland. On Saint Andrew’s You can visit any castle for free

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum • It’s located in Glasgow. • The building houses one of Europe's great civic art collection. • Since 2003 – 06 refurbishment the museum has been the most popular free to enter attraction in Scotland. • Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is the most visited museum in the United Kingdom.

Edinburgh Castle • Edinburgh Castle is built upon the massive Castle Rock part of an extinct volcano. • Edinburgh Castle was an important royal sight in Scotland during the reign of Malcolm III and his decedents. • In the fifth teen century the castle was used as an arsenal(a place were ammunition and weaponry are stored and made)

Edinburgh • Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland one of the ancient cities in Scotland. • Edinburgh’s population is over 450,000 but that more than doubles to over a million during the famous art festival in august. • Edinburgh university one of the most famous university was established in 1583. • Edinburgh’s attraction are the Edinburgh Castle, Museum of Childhood, Dynamic Earth, Scottish Parliament and the Camera Obscure, Deep Sea World.

  14. Glasgow • Glasgow has the biggest population in Scotland. • Glasgow Was awarded European city of culture in 1990 • Glasgow is home to more than 100 cultural organization including Scotland’s national orchestra , theatre , opera and Ballet

Aberdeen • Aberdeen Harbour was established in 1136 it’s also the oldest British oldest business. • There are two rivers in Aberdeen the Don and the Dee. • Charles Cameron from Aberdeen designed many buildings in St Petersburg during the reign of Catherine the Great. • The fastest sailing ship ever, the Thermopylae, was built in Aberdeen in 1868.   16. Stirling • Stirling became an important settlement because it is the lowest crossing place over the River Forth. Furthermore it has a rocky outcrop, which was a natural place to build a fort. • At the end of the 13th century a long war began between the Scots and the English. During the war Stirling castle changed hands several times. The English invaded in 1296 and captured Stirling Castle. However they were severely defeated at the battle of Stirling bridge the same year. The Scots recaptured Stirling castle in 1297. • There is a monument built for William Wallace not far from where the castle is.

Scottish foods and drinks • IRN –BRU: is a popular drink around Scotland also in Russia, Spain ,Ireland, Australia and USA. • Whisky: has been a traditional drink over many years. • Haggis: is a savoury pudding containing sheep's heart, lungs and liver. • Tablet is a medium hard sugary sweet made from sugar, milk, butter and vanilla • Arbroath smoky is a type of haddock prepared using traditional methods dating back to late 1800s.
