  1. Revision session 1 L’environnement

  2. Petit test de vocabulaire • To pollute = • Carbon gaz • Oxygen • Car-sharing • To harm • Petrol • Green house effect • Global warming • Waste • Atmosphere

  3. Renewable • Consumption • Resources • Solar energy • To use • Shortage • Exhaust gaz • To switch off • Nuclear station • biodegradable

  4. Sustainable development • On a global scale • Recycling • To reduce • Endangered species • A consumer • The ozone layer • To threaten • To safeguard • Of paramount importance

  5. Give me five opinion sentences starting with the subjunctive, on the topic of nuclear energy! • Other difficult grammar bits which you might want to try: “si” sentences passive en …ant (present participle) opinion phrases (quant à moi, je trouve, etc)

  6. How do you use your 20 minutes? • Choose a card = 30 seconds • Read the points of view and choose which one you want = 2 minutes • Think of at least 5 big arguments = 1 minute • Write up a developed, impressive plea = 16.5 minutes.

  7. How to write up your plea • Start off by announcing what point of view you have chosen: J’ai choisi de défendre le point de vue A/B parce que selon moi, il est impossible de penser autrement. • Include lots of complex grammar features • Don’t bother too much (yet) about recognising that the other point of view is valid – remember to develop all your ideas fully. If you have not mentionned a point, I am unable to raise it in the discussion later on. • Put your strongest arguments first – that way if you run out of time you’ll still have something to say. Be to the point: don’t faff about and get cut short without having developed all your arguments.
