2. National Social Rehabilitation Centre is a non-governmental, non-profit organization for social help and social services. • Since 1996 the National Social Rehabilitation Centre is acknowledged to be a representative organization on national level with a Decision No 1142 from 17 October 1996 of the Council of Ministers. • In 2002 National Social Rehabilitation Centre was awarded a Best Practice Certificate by the United Nations for its outstanding contribution towards improving the living environment.

3. SOCIAL SERVICES AND PROGRAMMES

COMMUNITY-BASED SOCIAL SERVICES People with disabilities receive wheelchairs, toilet commodes, bath chairs, crutches, sticks, walkers and other technical appliances.We offer service, adaptation and training for usage of the technical appliances, information about them.In our Bureaus for social services people with disabilities and their families daily receive consulting and assistance in solving their problems. We also offer intermediation before the state and local institutions, if necessary.

6. SPECIALIZED TRANSPORT SERVICE The National Social Rehabilitation Centre organizes specialized transport service with adapted minibuses for people with mobility problems. We have eight minibuses in the country, which transport the disabled persons on the desired route.

10. DAY CENTRES FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES • NSRC established three Day centers for children with physical and multiple disabilities in • Sofia, • Bourgas and • Nova Zagora. • The centers provide activities that help children to get to know the world and assist them to cope with the activities of their daily life. Besides there are provided pre-school preparation and classesin compliance with the programs of the mainstream and special schools. Children’s leisure time is also organized, by means of appropriate games, entertainments and sport.

SHELTERED HOUSE FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE • Capacity: 12 persons • Social services provided: • assistance for the personal hygiene and hygiene in the house; • assistance for the preparation of meals; • public services (assistance and/or accompanying the persons to shops, administrative bodies, socio-cultural events). • Staff: 8 persons • The main principles: • independence of the people living there, • permanent access to assistance and cares, • life in the community.

23. COMPLEXES FOR SOCIAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES • 2 complexes: • Varna • Bourgas • Services provided in 3 directions: • prevention of abandonment • prevention of violence • work with children with special needs.

24. COMPLEXES FOR SOCIAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES • Services for prevention of abandonment: • family consulting and support, • pre-natal and post-natal care, • family planning, • “Mother and baby” Unit, • consultations and assistance in foster care and adoption.

26. CENTER FOR TRAINING AND REHABILITATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES Center “St. George” is situated in Pomorie, which is one of the oldest sea and health resort centers in Bulgaria. The main objective of the Centre is to achieve professional and functional rehabilitation of young people with physical disabilities. Entirely adapted and accessible for wheelchairs users Unique by its nature on the Balkan Peninsula, the Center is remarkable place for all visitors.
