What is TOUCH? • Program designed to encourage osteopathic medical students to participate in community service • Working to promote wellness of community • Osteopathic philosophy of “treating the whole person” Can include a wide array of involvement that has a strong positive impact on people’s lives.

  3. What counts? • “Community Service” will be defined as any activity that works to improve the health and wellness of a community outside of the medical school coursework • Does not have to be associated with school • Participating in walks where money is donated to a specific cause • Alzheimer's Memory Walk, Light the Night • Fundraising counts if associated with event • Collecting money doesn’t count • Flag football tournament does count

  4. What DOESN’T count? • Shadowing a Physician • Planning for an event • Administrative tasks, etc. • Collecting money not associated with event • Tabling • Fundraising for a club or event • Example: Time spent fundraising for the Alzheimer's Memory Walk does NOT count. However, the time spent at walk will. • Hours you receive pay for • Paid work as an EMT

  5. Other things to consider • Medical mission trips do count • Time sightseeing during your trip does NOT count. • Does not have to be medically related • Philabundance, Habitat for Humanity

  6. TOUCH 50 hours - Silver Award 100 hours - Gold Award Most overall hours- Platinum Award TOUCH year begins during Orientation Forms due March 20, 2012

  7. TOUCH Form Please provide accurate contact information All recorded hours are subject to verification In the past, hours have been spot checked Remember, the UMDNJ Honor Code applies!

  9. Remember! Please keep track of your hours on the TOUCH Paper Form AND the Online Log! Events MUST be submitted into the online form within 30 DAYS of the event, or they WILL NOT COUNT!!!
