  12. Hillingdon Swimming Club • Positive’s of the season • In a perfect world.... • Are you working with • your coach? • Realistic goal’s • Area’s to be focused on • Squad structure • Season Plan NEW SEASON

  13. Hillingdon Swimming Club • Best ever year for Hillingdon Swimming Club • New facility • Team effect = snowballing belief • Age – Youth – Senior Force • Examples of how to become good = hard work really does pay off • Training programme has evolved • Support to the programme (coaches, parents, swimmers, helpers) • Kit • Training Camp • Working with other clubs POSITIVES

  14. Hillingdon Swimming Club IN A PERFECT WORLD Everyone has huge improvement every year Reality – nothing can be guaranteed What I do know is this: We need to look at good examples..... Patience, as hard as it is to accept, must be accepted 100% effort over the whole the season = best chance for improvement Swimmers who listen and believe in their coach = best chance for improvement Swimmers who are willing to make change = best chance for improvement Breaks cause problems – athlete & coach perspective

  15. Hillingdon Swimming Club ARE YOU WORKING WITH YOUR COACH? • Positive Behaviour (Swimmer) • High effort = 8~9~10 / 10 • Willingness to listen • Willingness to do • Signs of belief • Punctuality - on poolside / in water • Full attendance • Natural energy • Pro-active attitude – only need to be told occasionally. Good understanding. • Work on all areas including weaker ones • Happy • Negative Behaviour (Swimmer) • Low effort = 5~6~7 / 10 • Listen BUT • Little willingness to do • Signs of doubt • Punctuality - on poolside / in water • Poor attendance / many breaks • Always tired?? Physical / mental • In-active attitude – repeatedly told with little action. • Work only on selective areas • Routine Positive behaviour (swimmer) = positive behaviour (coach) Negative behaviour (swimmer) = negative behaviour (coach) • Positive Behaviour (Coach) • Excited about potential improvement • Creates greater desire to work with swimmer • Coach-swimmer TEAM feeling • Negative Behaviour (Coach) • Aware no improvement may be made • Working with swimmer becomes ‘nagging’ driven • Coach can feel distant from swimmer

  16. Hillingdon Swimming Club Realistic Goals THE OUTCOME WE ACHIEVED LAST SEASON – CAN IT BE TOPPED?????? Difficult to say because so many things can change throughout the season...... HOWEVER If we continue to do things better in the pool then we will improve as a WHOLE.... MY GOALS – Primarily Training Based Push better skills Better streamline + UW under pressure Increase swimming strength - greater ability to hold water (stronger stroking) Improve kicking performance under different conditions Improve swimmers understanding of training times – repeat training time sheets More swimmers buy into the commitment (EFFORT & ATTENDANCE) of our best examples Aim to do better in every competition

  17. Hillingdon Swimming Club IMMEDIATE FOCUS AREAS Get fit and strong as soon as possible Make changes September to December ...... Key period Goal Setting NOW and DECEMBER ..... Ready for rest of the competitive season Use long course sessions as well as we can Swim down – improving quality
