  1. Males or Females?

  2. Question WHO IS BETTER ESTIMATING THE UNKNOWN MALES OR FEMALES?

  3. Purpose • The purpose of this project is to determine, who is better at estimating the unknown, males or females?

  4. Hypothesis • We hypothesize that females are better estimators than males! We believe this because boys always play around and don’t pay attention. They always say they are smarter than girls. They’re not aware of paying attention to things around them!

  5. PROCEDURE

  6. Materials • A medium sized glass jar • Snap cubes • Paper clips • Crayons • Pencils • Marbles

  7. variables MANIPULATED VARIABLES MALES OR FEMALES RESPONDING VARIABLES ESTIMATES CONTENT VARIABLES SIZE OF JAR HOW MANY OBJECTS IN JAR FOR EACH TRIAL NUMBER OF PEOPLE ASKED TO ESTIMATE

  8. Directions • 1. Get medium size clear glass jar. • 2. Count and record of cubes. Keep count hidden from test estimators. • 3. Place cubes in clear jar. • 4. Have 10 girls and 10 boys estimate the number of cubes. Record estimates. • 5. Repeat steps 1-4 with paper clips. • 6. Repeat steps 1-4 with crayons. • 7. Repeat steps 1-4 with pencils. • 8. Repeat steps 1-4 with marbles.

  9. AVERAGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACTUAL AND ESTIMATES

  10. CONCLUSION • Our hypothesize was correct. Females are better estimators than males. The average difference between the actual and the estimate for males average was 32.18 and for females 31.24. If we wanted to try this investigation again, we would change the age of the estimators. It would be interesting if we got the same results.
