He was one of the first romantics.
He took inspiration from poets such as Goethe.
The song Ava Maria was a poem by Sir Walter Scott that he put to music.
He had syphilis for most of his career.
Because he was very poor, most of his compositions were sold in an attempt to provide for his wife and himself.
However, Italian Overture in C major is important because the first public performance of it sparked Schubert to devote his life to music.
Die Forelle, or The Trout, is the song by Schubert that I chose to play. I bet no one but Frau will be able to follow it.
Herman Prey is the singer in this selection.
