ASSE Foundation Mission • …in partnership with ASSE, the Foundation generates funding and provides resources for scholarship, applied research, academic accreditation and related activities in order to advance the safety, health & environmental profession. • Funding provided by • Corporations • ASSE Regions & Chapters • ASSE members & their families

Overview • Since 1990 the ASSEF has raised over $5,252,000 • Annual Contributions - approximately $450,000 - $600,000 • Annual Grants – over $245,000 in FY2011 • $170,000 in scholarships & professional development grants • $40,000 in research grants & research fellowships • $25,000+ - Future Safety Leaders Conference • $25,000 – PhD Fellowship, Career Guide Pub, ABET Assistance • ASSEF has nearly $2,720,000 in reserve funds • 20% of ASSE members support ASSEF via membership renewal • 30% of Chapters support the Foundation each year • ASSEF has over 72 restricted scholarship & grant funds

Achievements • Scholarship Programs (for students pursuing degrees in safety, health & the environment) • Professional Development Grants (for ASSE members working to advance their professional credentials) • Liberty Mutual Research Fellowship Program (to familiarize grad students, faculty members and other researchers with current research projects, models and applications to expand the body of knowledge) • Research Grant Program (for researchers conducting applied safety research that enhances management performance in reducing injuries and illness in the workplace)

Oppold AccreditationProgramFinancial support for universities seeking ABET accreditation of safety & health programs • Career Guide to the Safety Profession Co-published with the BCSP & available free to anyone interested in the safety profession • Future Safety Leaders Conference an event that prepares the future safety professional for the transition from student life to employment as a SH&E professional • PhD Fellowship Program Doctoral fellowship that is intended to cultivate future educators of OS&H; candidates will attend Oregon State University tuition-free for 3 years & be required to teach at the collegiate level for 3 years after completing their degree

  8. Donations Can Be Directed… • Donations Can Be Directed to a Fund of Your Choice: • Vision 2020 Fund – to support initiatives such as the PhD Fellowship Program, Student Conference, Research or Scholarship • Named Scholarship or PD Grant Program – pick from over 72 funds or create your own

Named Scholarship ProgramSomething to Think About… • Funding • It only takes $2,500 to establish a fund - donor can add to the fund each year • $30,000 will fund a $1,000 scholarship/grant – award and administrative fees are paid from investment earnings • Selection • Donor develops award criteria (with assistance from ASSEF) • Foundation Scholarship Committee selects candidate for the donor (based on criteria developed by the donor) • Benefits include… • National recognition • Foundation does the work for you • You are supporting tomorrow’s safety professionals

How Can I Support ASSEF? • Encourage your chapter to make an annual donation ($100+) or donate to the Silent Auction • Make a personal donation when renewing your membership • Help the Foundation reach out to your company for their support in the form of a direct gift or matching funds • Become a Legacy Donor

  11. Foundation Legacy Program • Planned Giving through bequests or life insurance policies • Allows donors to be economical & generous at the same time • 17 Legacy Trust Members

Scholarship & Grant ProgramSpread the Word… • Scholarships – over $150k available to students pursuing degrees in SH&E • Professional Development Grants – over $20k available to safety professionals working to advance their safety credentials thru ASP, CSP, college coursework, etc… • Applications due December 1st of each year • Visit www.asse.org/foundation • List of awards • FAQ’s • Application • Awards announced April 1st of each year
