  2. Listening Paper  General Tips • Don’t worry if you don’t get the answer at first. You will hear the recording twice, so you can try again the second time. • Check your answers during the second playing. If you are still not sure about an answer, make a guess. Never leave a blank. • As you listen, you can make notes on the question paper. There will be some time at the end for you to transfer your answers to the answer sheet.

  3. Listening Paper In the beginning of the Listening Test you will hear: Cambridge KeyEnglish Test. Paper 2. Listening. There are 5 parts to the Test. Parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Wewillnow start for a momentbeforewe start the test. Pleaseaskanyquestionsnow, becauseyouMUSTN’Tspeakduringthe test. Nowlookattheinstructions for Part 1.

ListeningPart 1 • What do I have to do? • Youwillhear 5 short dialogues andoneexample. • There is a question for each dialogue e 3 possibleanswers. • Theanswerscanbepictures, wordsornumbers. • Youneed to listenandchoosethecorrectanswer. • How do I do it? • Therewillbe a short pause betweeneachquestion, soreadthequestion to find out whatinformationyou are listening for. Youwillalsohearthequestion. • Lookatthepicturesandthinkofthewordsyoumighthear. • Allthethreepossibleoptionswillbepossiblymentioned, soyouneed to listen to thewholeconversationbeforeyouchooseyouranswer. • Youwillheartheconversationtwice.

Thenreadthetranscriptandanswer it. • Whenmusttheygivethehomework to theteacher? • Monday • Wednesday • Friday Transcript: Philip: Have you done your history project, Lizzie? Don’t we have to give it to the teacher on Monday? I haven’t started mine yet! Lizzie: Don’t worry, we’ve got more time than that. She doesn’t want it until Friday now. Philip: Really? When did she tell us that? Lizzie: In the lesson on Wednesday. Weren’t you listening, Philip?

ListeningPart 2 • What do I have to do? • Youwillhear a conversationbetweentwopeoplewhoknoweachother. • Youneed to match things in thetwolists. • Thelistontheleft (questions 6-10) couldbethingslikepeople’snames, daysoftheweek, or times. • Thelistontheright (answers A-H) couldbewordsononetopic, for example, food, school subjects or colours, or they could be adjectives giving people’s opinions. • There are 5 questions and an example (0) but there are 8 answers. Oneoftheanswers is used in theexampleandthere 2 answersyou do notneed to use. • How do I do it? • Before you listen, look at the instructions to see what the conversation is about. • Look at the two lists and think about words you might hear. • Youwillheartheinformationyouneed IN THE SAME ORDER as thequestions. • Don’tchoose an answerjustbecauseyouhearthewords in therecording. Theanswer to a questionwillhavethesamemeaningbutmay use DIFFERENT WORDS. For example, you may read sport and hear football and tennis.

  7. Exam Extra! Listening for wordswith similar meanings Theanswer to a questionmaynothaveexactlythesamewords as therecording, butthemeaningwillbethesame. For example: youngpeople – teenagers/ cheap - notexpensive.

  8. Listening Part 3 • What do I have to do? • Youneed to listen to a conversationandchoosethecorrectanswer to eachquestion. • How do I do it? • Readthe in istructionsandfind out whattheconversationwillbeabout. • Youwillheartheinformationyouneed IN THE SAME ORDER as thequestions.

Readthetranscriptandchoosetherightanswer for eachquestion. • Theschooltripwillbeginon • 15th May • 22nd May • 29th May • Howmuch does thetripcost? • £27 • £ 55 • £ 82 Transcript: Felicity: Hi, Daniel. I missed yesterday’s meeting about the school camping trip. Are we still going on the 15th of May? Daniel: We leave on the 29th now, Felicity. But we have to pay by the 22nd. Felicity: OK. How much is it? Daniel: It´s £55 for the campsite and £27 for the food, so it’s £ 82 all together.

Listening Part 4 andPart 5 • What do I have to do? • In part 4, youwillhear a conversationbetween 2 people. • In part 5, youwillhear some informationfromone speaker. • Youneed to listenand complete the notes. • Youmightneed to listen for a numberor a spelling. • Some oftheanswers are onewordand some are twowords. • How do I do it? • Beforeyoulisten, readtheinstructionssoyouknowwhattheconversationorinformation is about. • Writenumbers as numbers (25), notwords (twenty-five), soyoudon´t make a mistakewiththespelling. If a word is spelled out, youmustspell it correctly..

  11. Speaking – Part 1 Youneed to answertheexaminer´squestions. Thequestions are aboutyourlife – yourhouse, yourschool, your hobbies, yourfamily, andthingsyoulikeanddislike. Youneed to spellyoursurname. Try to givefullanswers, notjustoneword. Speakclearlyandasktheexaminer to repeatthequestionifyoudon’tunderstand (in English!! Canyourepeatthat, please?)

  14. Speaking – Part 2 Youneed to talk to yourpartner in thispartofthe test. Theexaminerwillgiveeachperson a card. Onecardhas some wordson it, youneed to use thosewords to makequestions. Then, theexaminerwillgiveyoutwodifferentcards. Ifyouaskedthequestionsbefore, nowyouanswerthem.
