Warm-up 03/08 • Write a list of 5 questions you’d like to learn more about. • Examples: • How is bacon made? • What was the role of Hitler in the Holocaust? • Why is the Leaning Tower of Piza leaning? • Write a five sentence paragraph answering this question: Should students use Wikipedia when researching?

  2. Citing a Website • Format of Citation: LastName, FirstName. Article Title. Version number. Sponsor or publisher, date of resource creation. Medium of publication. Date of access.

  3. Key Facts to Remember When Citing Websites in MLA… • Indent every line except for the first line. • Author’s name is written: Last, First. • You do not need to give paragraph numbers or page numbers. • Include in the text the first item that appears in the Work Cited entry that corresponds to the citation (e.g. author name, article name, website name, film name). • Date is written: Day Month Year.

  6. How Could We Cite A Book?? • Lastname, Firstname. Title of Book. City of Publication: Publisher,Year of Publication. Medium of Publication.

  7. Key Points to Remember When Citing A Book… • If there are multiple authors, their names are written normally. • Example: Tebow, Tim, Charlie Brown, Jennifer Aniston. • ITALICIZE the book title!

  15. Thesis Statement Practice Yes or No. Are these good thesis statements and research questions?? Research Question: What are Lebron James’ accomplishments? Thesis: He won three titles, he has one ring, and he has a child. Research Question: How did Benjamin Franklin contribute to life in America today? Thesis: Benjamin Franklin has contributed to American life today by inventing the light bulb, signing the Declaration of Independence, and discovering electricity.

  16. Remember: QUIZ ON MONDAY You should be able to… • Cite a website properly. • Cite a book properly. • Cite a personal interview properly. WITHOUT NOTES! • Due on Monday… • A research topic and a research question!
