  4. Italy More than 30 organizations are operational in the Park area NatiMAb Rotalactis Procelltech Glyconova

  5. Bioindustry Park and the local cluster BioPMed • 60 organisations/companies formally linked to the cluster • In total around 130 companies in the region (mainly red biotech and med-tech) • 24% of italian incubated biotech start-ups; 2°/3° italian region for dedicated biotech firms • 3 universities and several R&D centers • Availability of public financing for R&D and investment (Location contract)

  6. Bioindustry Park scientific and technology platforms • Molecular biology • Cell biology • Proteomics and Mass spectrometry • Bioinformatics • Chemistry/NMR • Bioanalytic • Imaging through the presence of the competence center of Torino University (from NMR to Maldi Imaging to MRI to optical imaging to x-ray to PET-SPECT) • Proteomics also through the CNR-ISPA lab

  7. Activities • Scientific Services and direct access to instrumentations • more of 40 different private and public clients/users in the last 5 years • Access to instrumentation for companies and research centers • Internal exploitation R&D projects • 6 patent application filed in the last year • Collaborative research • 8 collaborative research project performed in the last 5 years • Financed Projects • 3 financed projects in the last 5 years • FOCUS IN ON EXPLOITATION OF SCIENTIFIC RESULTS

  8. Resources Biology • Flexible and focused team • Interdisciplinary and integrated back-ground • State of the art technologies Proteomics Bioanalytics

  9. Mass spectrometry • Proteomics • Syntesis control and putifications • Maldi imaging • Standard services (MALDI, ESI, MALDI Imaging, cryostat) • Development of methodologies • Internal R&D projects • Collaborative/financed projects • Contact: Davide Corpillo, Phd – proteomics@bioindustrypark.it

  10. 2 DE • Biomarkersdiscovery in biological fluids (blood, cerebropinal fluid) • Cellular Proteomisa • 2-DE western blotting • Phosfoproteomics and glycoproteomics • Standard services (2° gels, Image analisys, etc), • Development of specific projects/methodologies on request • Internal R&D projects • Collaborative/financed projects • Contact:Alessandra Giuliano Albo, Phd – gulianoalbo@bipcamail.it

  12. Bioanalityc Bioanalytic platform offers bioanalytical and pharmacokinetic services to support the discovery and early development of small molecules and biologics, from discovery to early-clinical pharmacokinetics, data analysis (non-compartmental and compartmental PK analysis and PK/PD modelling and simulation) and full reporting. Fast method development for discovery support and full method development/validation in standard and non-standard matrices are available. Bioanalytic offers also know-how contracts on early-ADME applied to compound drugability, preclinical PK/PD and interspecies scaling-up to support costumers in the evaluation of small molecules and biologics. All operations, from sample tracking to data analysis, are performed in a QMS (Quality Management System) environment and tracked allowing the integrated design, conduct and reporting of bioanalytical and pharmacokinetic studies. • Contact: Stefano Porzio, Phd –porzio@bipcamail.it

  14. Management and business model • LIMA is a business unit of Bioindustry Park • A scientific responsible is coordinating all activitities • LIMA has a budget and a internal balance account (-> Loss) • Marketing/promotional activity is performed by the marketing/BD unit of Bioindustry Park • Agreement with local companies has been put in place in order to deliver advantages • Different agreements has been developed with local universities/research centers • Standard pricelist, standard regulations and standard contracts has been developed • Focused financing: e.g Provincia di Torino project on open access infrastructures.

  15. Some open problems • Breack-even and economic equilibrium -> self suatainability vs. loss base approach • Market dimension: local market is too small??? • Internationalisation and Complementarity • Services platform approach (-> but competition with private player and some universities) vs. open infrastructures approach (-> but difficulties in managing the economical aspect and in managing different organisations that are accessing directly the lab at the same time) • Choice of technologies: how to be always updated???
