  2. Contrast Light & Dark Light = White | Dark = Black Pure white & pure black produce the greatest clarity, sharp contrast. Produce the effect of precision, firmness, objectivity, & alertness Contrast in value can be used to create emphasis.

  3. Contrast Light & Dark contrast of value high contrast >> using combination of dark background colors & primary color for object. middle contrast >> using combination of the middle value gray | tone colors for object & background colors. low contrast >> using combination of tints for background & object colors.

  4. Contrast Light & Dark

  5. Contrast Light & Dark contrast & toning When black & white alone appear on a surface, optical mixing may take over. When a composition is worked on a mid-value surface, as opposed to a very dark or very light surface, it is called TONING.

  6. Contrast Light & Dark complimentary contrast complementary colors: Yellow-Purple, Blue-Orange, Red-Green

  7. Optical Effect Optical Art is a mathematically-oriented form of (usually) Abstract art, which uses repetition of simple forms and colors to create vibrating effects, moiré patterns, an exaggerated sense of depth, foreground-background confusion, and other visual effects. In a sense all painting is based on tricks of visual perception: using rules of perspective to give the illusion of three-dimensional space, mixing colors to give the impression of light and shadow, and so on.

  8. Optical Effect With Optical Art, the rules that the eye applies to makes sense of a visual image are themselves the "subject" of the artwork.

  10. Optical Effect • Contrast in value can be used to create emphasis. • Change in value delineate objects in the same way that line defines the edges of an object. • The greater the contrast of the values used, the more pronounced the delineation.
