  1. Do Now: • Pick Up Todays lab and this weekends homework

  2. Homework… • Fill in the graphic organizer as you watch Rosengarten’s video; • 2.01: Types of Matter • Read the notes p2-4 and fill in your graphic organizer • There might be some sort of ‘homework check’…so the more serious you take this the better you’ll do!

  3. Chem Lab Gets Serious • We need to get some stuff straight before we get to the fun stuff…

  4. Class Guidelines • Cut lab = 0 for lab but still have to do it • Stay on task & clean up • Late Labs = -30 points immediately • Incomplete Labs = -35 points and you have to complete it and turn it back in • Lab letters are sent if you are in danger of being barred from the Regents • Follow the safety protocols or you’re OUT!

  5. Class Guidelines • Lab is counted as part of your class marking period average now. • Class = 83.3% of mp average • Lab = 16.7% of mp average • Labs not turned in by the end of the marking period = ZERO but still need to be turned in to take the Regents exam.

  6. Contact Lens Contract • Contact lenses can hold chemical onto the eye in the event of a spill • Contacts have to be removed prior to flushing eyes with water • Wearing goggles will prevent any eye injury in this lab • ALL students will wear goggles when using heat, glassware and/or chemicals

  16. OUCH! GROSS! • EVERY ONE of the injuries shown would not have happened if GOGGLES HAD BEEN WORN!!!! • 10 point penalty to lab grade IMMEDIATELY if I see your goggles anywhere but on your eyes.

  17. Contact Lens Contract • Must be signed by a parent and returned by next lab period. • You are not allowed to work in the lab until all three documents (2 signed by your parents and 1 by you) are turned in.

  18. Scavenger Hunt • Find the safety equipment around the room • Put the number on the map • Write the purpose of each piece of equipment and how to use it • When done, have me check it and you can start working on the crossword puzzle

  19. First Aid • Burns – flush with water to stop the cooking • Cuts – Flush with water and bandage • Bruises – go “awww! You got a bruise!” • Fainting – call nurse, elevate legs and keep warm • Foreign matter in eye – flush with water in eyewash for 15 minutes, call nurse

  20. First Aid • Poisoning – call poison control and tell them the identity of the poison • Severe bleeding – apply pressure and elevate the wound above the heart, call nurse • Spills on skin – flush with water, call nurse if necessary

  23. Due Tuesday • The three signed documents (if you havent already!) • The Safety Lab with the crossword puzzle done and the answers to the questions done on a separate piece of paper in complete sentences.
