  2. INTRO. • Dewey • Vicki Myron and Brett Witter • Biography or Autobiography • 383 Pages • The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

  3. PREREVIEW This book is about a librarian who finds a homeless kitten weak and skinny. She decides to take the kitten in and makes it the library’s cat. As the kitten starts to grow up he is being notice by the town and then the world. This book tells the story of an alley cat changing into a member of the Spencer public library. Also a best friend to the world.

  4. COLDEST MORNING January 18,1988, was bitterly cold Monday. Vicki Myron wakes up and goes to work as librarian. As she starts to open up the library she hears a THUMP in the book drop. She goes over to the book drop and finds an alley cat. She sees that the kitten is freezing. She takes it a warm bath and feeds him.

  5. COLDEST MORNING (PAGE 2) She names the kitten Dewey and keeps him as the library’s cat. So that everyone can own Dewey, but she knows there is a special place in Dewey’s heart for her.

  6. Rubber Bands, Catnip, and New Friends when Dewey starts to get older he falls in love with rubber bands and catnip. When Doris a lady who adores Dewey brings him catnip as a present. Dewey starts to go nuts over the smell and he would chew on it all day, but he loves rubber bands more. he loves to chew on it and sometimes eat it. Vicki finds little rubber worms in his litter box. So she tells the staff to not leave rubber bands

  7. Rubber Bands, Catnip, and New Friends 2 around. He also meets new friends like crystal and Jodi. Crystal is unable to move her head, arms, and legs. So she mostly moves her eyes. Jodi is Vicki's daughter. Dewey just loves Jodi he would sleep with her when Vicki brought Dewey home, but he was sad when she left to go to college. Dewey would still sleep in her room when she left the house.

  8. Dewey’s END while Dewey starts to be an elderly. The staff has to start to be more gently with him. Also they talk about Dewey in news papers, magazines, and on the radio. Every one starts to travel to see Dewey. A Tokyo show travels to interview Dewey. Towards the end of the book Dewey starts to have health problems and dies of the age of eighteen.

  9. Dewey’s END 2 Vicki Myron has put to sleep other animals, but it hits her when Dewey dies.

  10. Vicki Myron Vicki is strong, caring, and hard working. Also Vicki has a tough life she grew up on a farm so she is expected to be strong. She had rough times in her life her two brothers and mom died in the book. She also divorces her husband because she never really saw him and was out drinking all the time. Vicki has libraian goals.

  11. Vicki Myron 2 she has to run the library and take care of Jodi , but when Jodi left she took care of Dewey. I learned in this book that life’s accomplishments are not that simple. You have to work at goals to achieve them.

  12. STRONG Vicki is strong because she is a farmer. She has to be strong because she is the oldest girl, So she helps her mom. Also in the book her mom expected her to be strong to not to cry when one of her brothers died and when she had cancer.(mom)

  13. Caring Vicki is caring because if she didn’t care about Dewey she would have gave him to the shelter. Also she cares about Jodi. She has mother daughter love. They would play a game in the car and at the end Jodi would say “I love you mommy”. She also cares about her job she said a couple of times in the book that she loves her job.

  14. Hard Working Vicki is hard working because she is the head libraian. So she is in charge of the library. When she first started she fell in love. At first she was the head librarian's assistance, but when the head left Vicki took over and loved it. She been working at the library for twenty-five years.

  15. Time Period The story started 18 years ago so It wasn’t that long, but It did say they started with cards to find books. Then later on they started to get computers. The disadvantage of this book is they didn’t have very much technology, but they did get it later on. I would be ok to live around this time, because It wasn’t long ago. So its not so different.

  16. Author’s purpose The author’s purpose for this book is because she is telling about her life and her time with Dewey. She is telling a story that a small person can change the world like Dewey. Who changed the world from his love.

  17. Like or Dislike I pretty much liked the book. It was boring in the begging ,but towards the end it got interesting. Like most books. She has a problem of getting off track. First she talks about Dewey and then a farmer crisis. Other wise I liked it. Like I liked it when Dewey starts to get more adventurous and jumps on the lights.

  18. Spencer Public Library I did some research online and typed in www.spencerlibrary.com/Dewey and they had a whole page on Dewey. Here is a picture of Dewey.
