Distribution of the Project Sites • Nina – Siaya • Nambale ACK- Busia • Manyole – Busia • Malanga – Busia • Nangeni - Busia • Green represent the supported schools during this grant period • Yellow represent the weaned off schools but continuing with PICD & Microfinance Bungoma Siaya Kericho Kisii Migori Quality HealthCare Financing

  3. Goal of the community school feeding program • Enhanced involvement of 5 school communities in Busia & Siaya counties to sustain the school feeding programme for improved enrollment and retention of MVCs in Schools

  6. IMPACT OF NUTRIFLOUR • Enhanced attendance of kids • Prolonged teacher child contact time • Concentration levels of kids increased • Reduced incidences of disease • Improved health status(reduced rushes and good health) • Kids more active and energetic • Improved performance of kids feeding

CHANGE STORIES FOR SANITARY PADS • Improved self esteem(girls asking teachers for pads) • More participation of girls in co curricular activities • Increased levels of personal hygiene reducing incidences of bad odor • Enhanced relationship between parents and girls who can freely talk about menstruation • Reduced absenteeism by adolescent girls during menses

PICD /CC Goals & Objectives • Encourage participation and involvement of all categories of people in the community. • Empower community to take the lead role & responsibility for all development activities • Empower communities to identify the local resources and mobilize them for their development • Encourage participation and involvement from community members for ownership and sustainability • Promote community dialogue on development issues

Accomplishments • Nina - community entry , attitude change and are at data gathering (Community mapping) trained on Village savings and loan, micro finance and trained on modern agriculture, up to 150 parents attend the sessions. • Nambale ACK - community entry, attitude change and starting data gathering( Resource bag, seasonal calendar) have been trained on poultry keeping to enhance their economic status at house hold level for effect participation and contribution, up to 250 parents attend

Cont’d/ • Nangeni - community entry, attitude change and started data gathering( Resource bag, seasonal calendar), up to 100 parents attending sessions • Manyole -community entry, attitude change and started data gathering( Resource bag, seasonal calendar), youth group identified and sensitized on modern agriculture and group savings and loan, up to 100 attending sessions • Malanga –community entry phase

Accomplishment cont../ • Improved contributions by parents towards the feeding programme through in kind contributions e.g. maize, beans, sugar, firewood , labor among others and money • The community has embraced the process and is clearly seen or demonstrated by the numbers attending the sessions

  15. Emerging issues • Teachers strike affecting the sessions with the youth • Seasonal calendar which slowed the pace and attendance during the community sessions • Youth involvement in agriculture issues • Sharing aspect of porridge among children
