  2. Tetra- means “four” Tetragon- a polygon with four angles and four sides Ex: A rectangle is a tetragon. Penta- means “five” Pentad- a period of five years Ex: The patient had been taking anti-cancer drugs for a pentad. Hexa- means “six” Hexapod- a six-legged creature

Hepta- means “seven” • Heptose- a molecule containing seven atoms of carbon. • Octo- means “eight” • Octoroon- a person with one-eighth black ancestry. • Ennea- means “nine” • Ennead- a group of nine persons. • Deca- means “ten” • Dekameter- a measure of length equal to ten meters. • Decapod- any crustacean with five pairs of legs.

Download- to retrieve a file from the World Wide Web or other Internet source. • Ex: I will download that free application to my computer. • Cache- a storage place on the hard drive for recently-used Internet information that needs to be assessed quickly. • Encryption- the coding or scrambling of information in a file so that it can only be decoded and read by someone who has the correct decoding key.

  5. Prefix multi- means many • Multiply- to make many or to increase in number • Multivitamin- contains several vitamins in one capsule • Multiped- many-footed • Ex: The centipede is a multiped. • Multitude- a great many • Ex: A multitude of supporters rallied behind the candidate for governor.

  6. Prefix ambi- means both or around • Ambisinister- clumsy with both hands • Ambidextrous- skillful with both hands • Ambilateral- refers to both sides • Ambiversion- a personality that exhibits both extroversion and introversion • Ambivalent- having conflicting feelings or attitudes about an object, person, or idea.
