Zonta International Strategic Goals • Goal 1: Zonta’sservice programs reflect & enhance its mission. • Goal 2: ZI is a leading advocate for the rights of women &girls. • Goal 3: Zonta increases membership by retaining & recruiting members who are committed to & actively work toward achieving Zonta’s mission.

  3. Governor’s Accomplishments - Kay Meyer • Guide the Board in building our District 12 capacity, including— • Began strategic planning--tying budget to goals to focus our resources • Formed new & more effective networks of communication • Ensured D12 leaders are informed re: responsibilities & Zonta resources • Updated D12 ways & means of doing business • Encouraging D12 leaders & Clubs to work efficiently with results in mind, be more visible, partner with each other & other orgs to work toward our goals. • Continuing to focus D12 efforts on priorities indicated by Zontians in ‘10 Membership Survey. • Continuing to remind D12 Zontians to see the meaning & importance of our work.

Gov’s 2011-12 Goals - Kay Meyer • Revitalizing Zonta D12  toward its mission: 21st Century Style--Let us look forward in a realistic & clearly-focused fashion • Making mentoring, scholarships, meeting real needs & speaking up for a safe & fair world –a Zonta Brand* • Supporting & helping Club Leaders & Board Members do their jobs

Long Term Planning CommitteeSheila Davis, Mary Benoit, Denise LaRue, Bridget Masters Planning timeframe is 5 years out Work began Oct 2010 – Plan complete by Jan 2012 • Performed an external environmental scan of similar organizations: • PEO, BPW • Rotary, AAUW • Soroptimists , Optimists • Performed a SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) • Using Strategy Formulation Process to complete the plan • Strategic Thinking • Analysis • Decisions • Implementation

District 12 Long Term PlanningSWOT Analysis Internal Forces External Forces Strengths • Well run & accountable international programs • Well defined scholarship programs • Clear mission statement • Strong commitment between clubs, district, & Intl to help each other Weaknesses • Not all Zontians are interested in the international aspect • Websites & social media need improvement • Organizational visibility needs improvement through more extensive PR efforts • No processes for relationships/ collaborations that promote our causes Opportunities •  Partner with like-minded women’s organizations & take timely advantage of opportunities to promote ourselves • Advocacy efforts – take advantage of legislative actions & be in tune with media to identify potential opportunities Threats • Clubs and district size are small • Not keeping up with technology • Need more distinction to stand out from Soroptimists • Girls now thinking there is no problem w/ women’s rights

Membership Accomplishments– Sheila Davis, Chair OMC – 2010-2011 – We Turned Up the Heat! • Membership rose from 560 to 615 • District 12 was 1of 6 districts to increase members • OMC committee (VADs)established & working effectively • D12 Membership Chair webpage & Facebook group up • Greeley SOM committee in place & recruiting

  8. OMC Goals ‘11-12 In June, ZONTA hit a Cold Front! D12 Membership dropped from 615 to 514 (16% overall loss – 7 clubs had losses > 20%) Overall, Zonta lost 1,183 members (~1 per club) • Zonta International has set the following goal for 2011-2012: • Add 2 new members to every club in the world • (Net increase 6/1/10 -- 6/1/12) • District 12 OMC embraces this ‘net +2’ for every club! • Get a new Greeley club chartered this year!

  9. Secretary & Archivist’s Goals– Carol Leffler • Prepared timely & accurate minutes of District 12 meetings • Ensuring the records of D12 are safely stored & readily accessible • Assisting in development of an archiving policy &procedure for D12 records

ByLaws Accomplishments& Goals – Reneé Coppock • Revised the District 12 Policies & Procedures Manual to comply with amendments to ZI Bylaws and ZI District Manual. • In  conjunction with Carol Leffler, gave presentation at 2010 District Conference regarding club bylaws & archiving. • Visited with clubs in District 12 regarding updating bylaws. Goal: Contacting the remaining clubs in the District to assist & ensure that all club bylaws are current.

UN Chair Accomplishments--Mary Lou Edwards • Wrote 2 articles:‘Status of Women’ & ‘Millennium Development Goals’ for clubs & Outreach • E-mailed UN new news to Clubs • Arranged, planned & staffed Zonta booth at 100thAnniv Celebration of Int’l Women’s Day Denver Event. (Resulted in good visibility @ event & in program) • Presentations at all Area Meetings & Greeley.

  12. UNChair’s 2011-12 Goals—Mary Lou Edwards • Further understanding re Zonta's relationship with the UN & what UN does • Keep all D-12 clubs current on UN events & issues • Provide info at Area Meetings • Work with Club Prezs & UN Club Chairs for UN & IWD day celebrations

ZIF / UN Accomplishments– Nikki Headlee • Created a UN Workshop which was presented at the District Conference,  Denver II, and Royal Gorge on September 7, 2011. • Every individual contributor to ZIF since 8/1/10 has received a hand written thank you note from me. • Attended Area 2, 3, & 4 Area Meetings, talked about ZIF projects, showed the Rwanda DVD (a picture is worth a 1,000 words), stressed the importance of the funding ZIF does to enhance the status of women worldwide.

Z I Foundation 2011-12 Goals: • 12 X 12  --Increase individual donations to 12% from current 5.84% by May 31, 2012 • Appoint an “in-house” Foundation Ambassadorin each club • ClubAmbassdors will arrange dining-in events, inviting Zontians to attend pot luck dinners. Each Zontian will then be asked to write a check to ZIF for the difference between her dish & restaurant dinner • Attend all four Area Meetings • Continue to educate Zontians on ZIF projects & their impact on women worldwide • Continue to request each club to donate 1/3 of the money they raise to ZIF

  15. Service Accomplishments--Arlene Ekland-Earnst • Members are gaining a better understanding of what constitutes an actual Service Project vs. a feel good project. • During the course of the year, Numerous discussions as to the value of certain ventures • Clubs becoming more cognizant of the importance of contributing to ZI • All clubs have undertaken valuable service projects this year.

Service & Scholarship Goals --Arlene Ekland-Earnst • Increase D12 clubs’ participation in scholarship applications • Improve consistent understanding of importance of ZI service projects & how they relate to local action • Develop methods to share Service Projects with all club members • Promote service projects’ effectiveness in the community thru the use of media

  17. PR Accomplishments -- Diane Twining • Recruited a skilled, helpful PR Committee • Developed & published a solid, doable D-12 Marketing Plan • Raised the importance, awareness & actions of PR/Communications for D-12 Clubs

External Comnctns (PR) Goals 2011-12 – Diane Twining • Develop a Zonta Community-based Speakers Bureau for outreach and education • Launch & Keep Lively a PR Section & Perspective on the D-12 Website • Make Zonta Business Cards available for every D-12 Zontian • Find, promote and distribute a PR Product w/ multiple uses • Expand observance of Rose Day/ International Women's Day at all levels

InternlCommunicatns 2010-11Accmplshmts--Anita Zastrow • Updated Databaseupon receipt of additions/corrections • Provided compatible Directory file(s) to webmaster for D12 website • 1st time -- moving to the Web! • Maintained over 20 e-mail groups for the Board, Clubs, & Committees • Produced 4 issues of the • Outreach newsletter

Internal Communications Goals 2011-12 -- Anita Zastrow • Update D12 Database -- upon receipt of changes from Clubs & Zontians • Remind Clubs of above  • Assist Club & D12 leaders coordinating member info [Club!"District"ZI] • Maintain e-mail groups for the D12 Board, Club Prezs/Trsrs, & individual Clubs • Provide mailing label files, Club listings, etc. upon request • Update/Copy/Bind & Distribute D12 Directory @ D12 Conference • Provide updates to webmaster for D12 Website Directory • Provide .pdf version of Directory upon request • Share Outreach Editor duties with committee members • Plan, execute, & distribute 4 issues of the Outreach • Provide advice & encouragement to Club leaders re all above

  21. Technology & Web Site Goals 2010-2012 Using the web to provide cost-effective, wide-spread, & timely information will be a priority for the new biennium. The following goals are essential: • Encourage use of various media & technology for efficiency & effectiveness in all D12 operations. • Comply with Zonta International guidelines. • Increase frequency of club web updates & expand content. • Promote club use of the web, under the D12 domain, to save money & encourage membership growth. • Use web to increase club membership & outreach.

Nom Com Accomplishments--Priscilla Romkema, Kathy Dean • Identified candidates for elected D12 positions for 2012-14 • Submitted candidates’ names & brief bios to D12 Governor & to the D12 membership. • Provided final slate of candidates to D12 Governor & Secretary to be included in conference materials. • Worked with ZI Nomntg Committee to recruit qualified Zontians for ZI Officers, directors, & nominating committee.

  25. Nominating Committee’sGoals • Identify Nominating Committee replacement for Pat Kiovsky • Work with ZI Nominating Committee to recruit qualified Zontians for ZI Officers, directors, & nominating committee. • Assist in identifying D12 Board replacements, if necessary.

LAA Committtee Accomplishments --Sharon Roggy • Informed membership re issues & pending legislation throughout state legislative sessions • Organized successful CO advocacy education event ‘A Day at the Capitol’ • Submitted statement to US Judiciary Comte during hearing re CEDAW ratification • Wrote ‘Platform for D12 Advocacy’ & background briefing • Developed Speed Learning presentation for District Conference • Submitted ‘Day at the Capitol’ to ZI LAA as example

Legis Awareness & Advocacy Goals --Sharon Roggy • Encourage every club to establish LAA Committee • Solicit feedback from clubs about their advocacy efforts • Provide a platform for advocacy • Track & disseminate information about issues & legislation which impacts women & girls • Identify at least one district-wide effort and lead the charge, presenting specific actions to be taken by club members • Encourage clubs to identify at least one LAA effort per year, incorporating collaboration with others into their efforts

Area 1 AD Accomplishments – Jo Prang • Attended the ZI Convention in San Antonio • Kept in e-mail contact with all Presidentsof Clubs in Area 1 • Worked on "Top 10 Reasons to be a Zontian" (This is the club you keep for life!) • Participated in District 12 Board Meetings • Worked on trying to retain Gillette Zonta Club • Worked with the Spearfish Zonta Club for a sensational Area 1 Meeting • Visited 7clubs this year, some more than once

Area 1 Director’s Goals -- Jo Prang • Help keep the clubs in District 12 healthy • Share the success of those clubs that are gaining membership (4 out of 7 had membership gains) • Attempt newer forms of communication like Sykpe, Fuze, in addition to e-mail with the Presidents • Continue to promote the International aspects of ZI • Plan the Area 1 meeting with Billings Club • Start a new round of visits at Area 1 Club meetings • Continue to participate in District 12 Board activities

  30. Area 2 AD Accomplsmts --Mary Walker • Visited all clubs in Area 2 • Hosted successful April Area 2 meeting in Cheyenne • SOM committee is launching new club in Greeley • Worked with clubs to complete Healthy Club Inventories • Welcoming Deedee Boysen, Vice Area Director

Area 3 Director’s Accomplishments– Marcy O’Toole • Leadership: • Developed & presented Presidents’ Workshop @ 2010 D12 Conference. • Directed completion of Healthy Club Inventory by every Club in Area • Communication / Area Wide Events: • Held 5 Presidents’ Meetings, engaging Presidents by highlighting current activities & best practices. • Amelia Earhart Luncheon -100 attendees • Area 3 Meeting, focusing on Teen & Date Violence • Advocacy / International • Participated in Day at Legislature -Feb 2011 • Sponsor @ CO Women’s Legislative Breakfast -Feb 2011 • Sponsored booth @ Denver Int’l Womens’ Day Event (March 2011)

Area 3 Director’s Goals-Marcy O’Toole • Improve communications between Clubs & Members by: • Conducting Prezs’/VPs’ meetings: highlighting service , finance & membership efforts. • Coordinating effective Area 3 Meeting • Sharing time in Area 3 Service Project • Sharing Best Practices among Clubs • Provide assistance in leadership development, membership recruitment, long-term planning. Focus initially on smaller clubs (< 15 members) via Club Revitalization Plans • Promote Zonta thru Public Relations & collaborative activities with like-minded organizations.

Area 4 AD Accomplishments –Laura Stamp • Performed all duties outlined in D12 P&Ps • Co-produced & presented ‘President’s Tool Box’ workshop @ D12 Conf • Facilitated annual Club Reports being submitted BEFORE due date • Ensured all clubs received & reviewed the Healthy Club Inventory • Assisted the Zonta Club of Royal Gorge in producing a successful, productive Area Meeting • Accompanied Governor to Prowers County Board meeting & Club installation of officers

Area 3 Director’s Goals- Laura Stamp • Continue to perform all AD duties in D12 P&P • Co-produce and present Speed-Learning Roundtable at this Conference • Coordinate development of purpose statement & application processes for D12 Education Fund (formerly ZAP) • Guide the production of affordable, useful, Area 4 Meeting w/ ProwersCounty • Increase my communication with all Area 4 Clubs

  36. Amelia Earhart Fellowship - Accomplishments • CU Students were awarded 6 of the 35 International AE Fellows in Fall of 2010 • The district celebrated with a fun event in Jan., 2011 at CU with the most AE Fellows in a room ever – we think. (at least 9!) • CU women once again are awarded 2 of the 35 Fellows in Fall of 2011. The six CU AE Fellow’s for the 2010/2011 academic year.

  37. A E Fellowship – Goals • Foster relationships with current & past AE Fellows with the intent of creating future Zonta members. • Broaden the AE Fellowship D12 applicant pool to include other schools of higher education in CO, WY, MT, & SD. • Applications due November 15, 2011 for the next year. (Soon!) • Applicants must be women pursuing their Ph.D./doctoral degrees in the field of aerospace-related sciences & aerospace-related engineering. • Contact Stephany Westhusin – District AE Fellow Coordinator (bfwest3@aol.com) or go to “www.Zonta.org”

Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) – Janet Bergin 8 clubs submitted impressive candidates; 3 areas were represented Why participate? • Encourage ♀ HS students, • Reward participation in public good • Introduce the girls & their families to Zonta • $$$...Since 1990, Zonta has awarded 601 YWPA Awards ($430,750 to 534 students from 50 countries) D12 award =$1,000 from ZI, plus $500 from D12 Scholarship Fund. ZI Award = $3,000 to 5 global applicants D12 had an International winner in 2009 (=$4,500) Next District deadline: April 1, 2012 www.zonta.org - tons of info & tools make the process easy.
