  2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES • Discuss the level of education required to achieve a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. • Identify common training experiences that support this career goal.

EDUCATION • MY PATH • B.S. in History of Technology and Society • B.A. in Psychology • B.A. in Religious Studies • M.A. in Clinical Psychology • M.A. in Theology • Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology • A NORMAL, SENSIBLE PATH • A bachelor’s degree in Psychology will make it much easier for you. • You’ll most likely get a “non-terminal” masters degree while you’re pursuing the Ph.D. • A Psy.D. will also do the trick…don’t think that you absolutely need a Ph.D.

  4. TRAINING • When do I get to do therapy?!?! • I did not get to provide therapy until my first year of graduate school. • During graduate school, I worked part-time at different clinics and hospitals for course credit. • Fuller Psychological & Family Services • Pasadena Mental Health Center • Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation • Sepulveda VA Medical Center • Walter Reed Army Medical Center

  5. PERSONAL MOTIVATIONS • Enjoyed listening to others. • Fantasies about being heard and valued. • Fascination with the similarities between the Bible and the field of psychology. • Commitment to lifelong personal growth.

  6. A DAY IN THE LIFE… • 0500 – Wake up. • 0620 – Arrive at morning formation. • 0630 – Conduct PT. • 0800 – “S___, shower, shave.” • 0900 – Staff triage cases. • 1100 – staff meetings, command consultation. • 1300 – scheduled therapy appointments. • 1600 – write notes. • 1700 – Return home.
