2. Whyintergenerationalapproach in engaging men and boys? Adultsinitiateyoung men and youngwomenin adulthood to ensuretheywillconform to norms and cultural practices. Behaviours and attitudes are laid out at earlyage Wecannotachieve the impact on women and girls withoutworkingwith men and boys at differentlevels

3. What we learnt so far • Since 2007, we began to work on Engaging men and boys approach/ABATANGAMUCO; we achieved good results: A movement of ABATANGAMUCO engaged to change thosenorms and practices • The ABATANGAMUCO fail to connect their sons and other young men in the community to the change;

4. Whatwelearntso far • The ABATANGAMUCO approach didn’t impact young girls 'empowerment, because their brothers refused them access to resources, despise their mothers and sisters; • Young women are aware that they can’t achieve their empowerment if their brothers and other young men in the community are not targeted • Our initiatives target unique sex groups, with a focus on a certain age cohort

5. Whatwechanged in ourapproach Westarted to workwithyoung men promotethem as change agents and weconnectthem to the Abatangamuco network; The youth change agents contribute to redresstheirfather’sbehaviours. The young men now respect theirmothers and sisters, contribute to the householdsactivities, and changedtheir perceptions on women and girls

Impact in ourprogramming Wereviewour Theory of Change and impact groups: • Beforewehadtwo programs: • Womenempowerment program • Childrenempowerment program Werealizethatwe have to change and workwith: -Womenempowement program -Youthempowerment program with a focus on changingsocioculturalnorms and practices and theirsexual and reproductive health

Challenges • The youthwho change behaviour are stigmatized by their siblings, parents and the wholecommunity in general. «  The shouldercangrow but itconnotbebiggerthat the neck » • Manyyoungmomen are stillexpericiencing violence by theirbrothers, fathers, patterns and othercommunitymembers (forced and earlymarriage; prostitution, --- • The support to the GBV victimsissubject of threating Abatangamuco and youth change agents

8. Challenges • Weobserve a permanent misunderstandingbetweenadults and youth in terms of speciificneeds • Somecommunity and religious leaders are stillchallenging the engaging men work and genderequality at all levels

Successes. • Some young people have succeeded to transform their parents’ behavior. • Permanent dialogues dialogue betweenadults and youth on eradicatingroot causes of genderenequality. • Some parents volunteer to attend sensitization activities organized by youth and are • Existence in some areas of transformed adults who support behavior change among youth (Abatangamuco)

10. Gender synchronisation: Multidimensional • Gender synchronisation canbeseen at differentaspects: Workingwithwomen vs men, but alsoworking at intergenerationallevel. • Involving all the communitystrata in a synchronizedapproach; • Establishstrong links betweenyouth and adults in our interventions, as well as men and women, boys and girls. • Createawareness in all socializationspaces
