Key Concepts • Media language- All the different ways that media texts can create meaning e.g. camera angle, costumes, music (stars wars) • Representation- How the media represents events/stories/opinions. E.g. the Sun and The Guardian have different ways of re-presenting the same thing (Brexit) How people present themselves on fb may be different to reality. • Audience- Who watches the media and why, studying the audience can help you understand why the media is presented in a certain way. E.g. Mojo is for older men and We love pop is aimed at girls • Institution- Who makes the media. E.g. Documentary made by BBC compared to ITV, will have different ideologies and funding.

  3. Representation • How the media chooses to portray something The first image is aimed at an older audience who like music. Therefore the focus is more on the identity of Justin Bieber and his art. Whereas on the right the audience would most likely be younger girls and therefore the picture presents him as a cute idol.

  5. Audience • The target audience is what the media is aiming its product at.

  6. Institution • Who makes the media e.g. BBC and ITV. • For example a Hollywood film would have a big budget compared to an Indie film which would have a smaller budget. Therefore they would be more special effects and perhaps more advertising for the Hollywood film.

  7. Spiderman • Produced by: Columbia pictures and Marvel studios • Budget: 175 million USD • Box office:748 million USD • As a big and well known studio made the film the film can afford more advertising as well as famous actors which could attract audiences.
