Frame-Independent Kinematics and Constitutive Modelling for Solids: A Comparative Study

This paper explores the problems with traditional formulation of rigid rotating frames and proposes a reference frame-independent approach to kinematics and constitutive modelling for solids. The study compares the consequences and implications of the traditional and frame-independent approaches. The findings show that the frame-independent formulation provides a more convenient and accurate representation of deformation and strain in solids. It also highlights the importance of considering spacetime effects in non-relativistic systems. This research has significant implications for continuum physics and engineering applications.

  3. Consequences: • four-velocity is an objective vector, • time cannot be avoided, • transformation rules are not convenient, • why rigid rotation? • arbitrary reference frames • reference frame INDEPENDENT formulation!

  5. The aspect of spacetime: Special relativity: no absolute time, no absolute space,  absolute spacetime; three-vectors → four-vectors, x(t) → world line (curve in the 4-dimensional spacetime). The nonrelativistic case (Galileo, Weyl):  absolute time, no absolute space, spacetime needed (t’ = t, x’ = x − vt) 4-vectors: , world lines: (4-coordinates w.r.t. an inertial coordinate system K) The spacelike 4-vectors are absolute: form a 3-dimensional Euclidean vector space.
