Playing History • Children 9 - 13 years • The plague in 14th.Century Florence • Narrative: Marchione, Mother is sick, quest to find a cure, learn about the plague • The personal story&The big picture • Player: Active participation and exploration • Educational goals: history, biology, geography, European culture

  3. Perspectives Instead of telling the “truth” we let various characters in the game give their version of it. That way, the topic – in this case 14th century history and the plague – gets commented from various perspectives, that are all part of the historic events. Based on her interactions with the game world and its characters, the player will be able to form her own concepts, in stead of just being handed them. Games: The possibility for the player to become an active part of history as it unfolds.

GlobalConflicts • Students 14 - 19 years • Five global conflict games: Palestine, Latin America, Child Soldiers, Sweatshops, Afghanistan • Palestine narrative: Journalist arriving in Jerusalem, go along the IDF to catch a terrorist, write an article • Understanding the conflict - not solving it! • What has caused the conflict? • Who are the people involved? • What are the consequences of the conflict? • Educational goals: history, politics, democracy, journalism and the media Gorilla marketing of G.C.: Child Soldiers
