  2. The first camera used for motion picture! • Its was called “wheel of life” or “zoopraxiscope” • Invinted in 1867

  3. Hanibal W. Goodwin • Invited Film • In 1867 • Was a minister • Changed the mixture of chemicals and soon made film.

  4. Edwin S. Porter 1903 • He made the film industry with a “comeback” using more suspense and drama • Made the first narrative poem called The Great Train Robbery. • The film ran for 14 minutes and contained the first chase scene that movie audiences had every watched. • Porter's techniques in arranging the chase along with moving the camera back and forth between scenes to show what was happening in different places at the same time was also something that the audiences had never watched before.

  5. Nickelodeon 1905 • The first theater designed solely for motion pictures opened in Pittsburgh, PA in 1905. • Called a Nickelodeon because the price of admission was a nickel, it was a big step up from the previous places where movies had been shown. • The Pittsburgh nickelodeon had 199 seats. • The films were 20 minutes in length total.

  6. Technicolor 1917 • In 1917, filmmakers were experimenting with Technicolor but it still had too many problems to be used. • The colors were not very realistic looking. • Red and green were the only colors used. • This caused eyestrain on viewers. • Color film was much more expensive than black and white.

  7. Warner Brothers 1927 • Started in 1903 by Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack Warner • Film production company was one of the first to feel the impact of radio. • From the beginning the company struggled with financial problems. • As movie attendance dwindled, the little company was on the verge of bankruptcy. • Warner Brothers became one of the first companies to take a chance with sound.
