  1. 2008/2009 Library Faculty Council Activities

  2. Gen Ed Reform • Appointed a Gen Ed Reform Working Group to respond to Provost’s white paper • Organized two faculty meeting discussions led by Gen Ed Steering Committee leaders • Library faculty members were appointed to all 11 curricular teams

  3. Evidences for promotion and tenure • Addressed the Provost’s charge to colleges to develop evidences for promotion and tenure • Appointed an Evidences Working Group to compile examples of evidences • Group gathered information and led first faculty discussion. Work is ongoing.

  4. Faculty Mentoring • Formed a Mentoring Working Group and a permanent Mentoring Committee • Committee held various mentoring events and is planning a mentor match system.

  5. Rethinking Research Libraries • Developed theme for yearlong faculty discussion • Launched with overview and discussion at 2008 fall Faculty retreat • Members of EC made presentations at faculty meetings

  6. Revised Library Faculty Procedures • Drafted revised procedures • Held faculty discussion on proposed revisions • Revised Procedures adopted by faculty in May 2009 • New procedures approved by Provost July 2009

  7. Additional activities • Planned fall faculty retreat • Held faculty elections • Responded to proposed AR and GR changes related to tenure process on behalf of the faculty • Co-sponsored, with Collections Advisory Committee, open forum on institutional repositories • Conducted survey on Council effectiveness

Council effectiveness survey2008 and 2009 • 2008 overall effectiveness: 78% rated “effective to very effective” • 2009 overall effectiveness: 3.80 on scale 1-5. • Most important issues 2008: evidences, review of faculty performance evaluation process, gen ed reform, mentoring • Most important issues 2009: ditto
