1. Commercial Law Need to invest in some law? Not sure where to or how to? There are two choices LexisNexis JutaStat Both databases can be used to find the acts you need.

2. Where to find them? Just follow the money bags. 1 2 LexisNexis Log onto the INTERNET and go to www.uj.ac.za JutaStat Click on the library link

3. The next step is to click on Databases 3

4. Then the database’s list will open…. 4

5. Scroll down till you get to JUTASTAT (only available on UJ campus), JUTASTAT Online (available on internet) or LexisNexis. 5 6 7 But which one to use? Well lets see how both work

6. 8 LexisNexis JutaStat Click on the orange title of the database to open it(in this example Jutastat Online is used)…

7. 9 Just like any investment, it needs protection so to use the databases you need to have a library pin/Uj e-mail address and password. If you don’t have a pin, follow the easy steps and create one(remember the pin must be longer than 7 characters and have numbers and letters like john23456). If you have forgotten your pin, then have it reset at foyer one of the library.

8. How JutaStat(Online) looks To access the Acts Search tool just click on the drop down arrow of the ‘Choose Advanced Search Form(s)’ and click Acts Search. 10 JutaStat

9. But how to use it? (The example that will be used will be the Financial Markets Act No 19 of 2012 but the same process can be used for any act you want to search for) 11 12 OR To gain access to the act you would want, you can either type in the Act Name or the Act Number with the Act Year. The result will be the same.

10. The result will show the act, to access it click on the blue writing. 13 14 It will open up the act’s table of contents.

11. How to get the full deal. 15 16 17 Click on View Full Act. The full act will the appear. To save, right click and select all , then right click and copy and paste in a word document and save.

12. How LexisNexis looks Step 1: Click Try our new interface. Step 2: Fill in details and click register 18 1 2 3 Step 3: Click on Legislation below the red search box

13. But how to use it? (The example that will be used will be the Financial Markets Act No 19 of 2012 but the same process can be used for any act you want to search for) 19 20 You can either type in the Act Name or the Act Number and then click search.

14. The same result will appear for both searches like this. 21 22 Click on the name of the act in blue(above) which in this case is “FINANCIAL MARKETS ACT…” to open the table of contents.

15. How to get the full deal? Click on the TABLE OF CONTENTS tab on the left hand side. 23

16. The TABLE OF CONTENTS will open up. Then click the check box next to Context Headings to allow a tick to appear. Next click the words Sync Contents. 24

17. Then this will open on the left hand side. 25 26 27 Click on the act you want to open in full, which in this case is the Financial Markets Act No. 19 of 2012. Make sure the box has a tick in it next to the name of the act. Then click View Selection.

18. Now the full act will open up. To save the full act, right click and click select all then right click and click copy. Paste in a word document 28 29 Or you can download it as a pdf file with the save button. Then save it.
