What are the important applications of GI Pipes?

GI (Galvanised Iron) pipes are fabricated using mild steel strips of low carbon steel coils. To provide a circular shape to the carbon strips, they are passed through a sequence of fine rolls. With continuous high-frequency electric current across the end of the edges, the strips are welded together. Further, the steel pipes (welded) are then passed through sizing parts where any dimensional issues are corrected. With the help of automatic cutting machines, the pipes are then cut into desired lengths. In the end, these tubes are then pressure tested to see any leaks. The varnishing and galvanization of the pipes are done as per specific requirements.

  1. The GI Pipes are commonly used for the supply of raw and treated water in urban or rural areas. These pipes are easy to handle, maintain, light in weight and reasonable. GI pipes are used in industries as well as homes for various purposes. Have a look- Used as electric poles and water & sewage pipes Used for structural, engineering, and automotive purposes Oil and gas transmissions The galvanized iron pipe has a protective zinc coating which offers many advantages over other pipes. Have a quick look- Low-cost: The galvanization process generally costs less than other common techniques for protecting the steel. In the other processes, often labor is required and the cost of labor is high. Galvanization process needs less manual labor, and therefore is quite affordable. Long-life: The galvanized iron has a long life. Galvanized iron fittings, pipes, and other structures can remain intact for 50 years in many rural areas, and in severely exposed coastal and urban environments, this material can last for almost 25 years. Low maintenance costs: Due to its zinc coating, minimum maintenance is needed. This material is most effective and beneficial in the remote locations that would be difficult to reach. High-strength: The unique and amazing metallurgical composition of a zinc coating makes it very rough. Therefore, these products are not sensitive and can resist damage during assembly, transport, and service. Standardization: The galvanization process to make GI pipes is normally standardized so that every product should meet specific standards. With this, you’ll be able to predict the performance and lifespan of your galvanized steel fitting, pipes, and other products. Complete protection: The galvanization process makes the material rust-proof, and can bear extreme weather conditions. Thus, it offers the complete protection. Easy inspection: The galvanized pipes and fittings can be easily inspected to check the authenticity. Galvanized coatings can be inspected and their thickness can be checked with easy and non-destructive methods. If a galvanized coating appears undamaged, you can buy that material. Fast assembly: The galvanized material can be collected and transported easily. Once a galvanized steel product is fabricated, it is ready to be used. There is no need to paint the surface as the zinc coating is already provided on the surface. Just install the GI structure and move on to the next step of construction.
