  1. What are the uses and benefits of paracetamol? Paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen is an analgesic and a fever reducer medicine. Paracetamol tablet is used to get relief from many conditions like muscular pain, headache, backache, arthritis, toothaches, fevers and cold. It is effective in mild arthritis but has ineffective on the inflammation as well as the swelling of the joint. Paracetamol syrup is used to treat children who are suffering from fever. The syrup reduces the pain and fever in the children. There are several forms and brands of paracetamol available in the pharmaceutical market. Paracetamol is one of the most common painkillers which is easily available in any medical shop without prescription. Don’t take more of this medicine than is recommended. An overdose of paracetamol can harm seriously. For adults, the maximum amount of paracetamol is 1 gram or 1000 mg per dose and 4 grams or 4000 mg per day. Consuming more paracetamol dosage could damage your liver. If you consume more than 3 alcoholic beverages in a day, it is advisable to talk to your doctor before taking paracetamol tablet and never take more than 2 grams or 2000 mg per day. if you have liver disease (cirrhosis) then always talk to physicians before taking this medicine. Don’t take any other over-the-counter drugs for the cough, cold, pain or allergy without first asking your doctor or chemist. Paracetamol drug is contained in several combination drugs. If you take certain products together without asking your doctor, you may accidentally consume too much paracetamol which can cause harm to livers. Always read the label of any medicine you are using to check whether it has acetaminophen or paracetamol. While taking this medication, avoid drinking alcohol. Alcohol may boost your risk of liver damage while taking paracetamol. If your child is allergic to acetaminophen or paracetamol, don’t give him/her paracetamol syrup. Ask the doctor for any other substitute drug. It is not known whether paracetamol is safe for an unborn baby. The pregnant woman should always talk to her doctor if she wants to take paracetamol for fever or any other discomfort in the body. This medication can also pass into breast milk so it may harm a nursing baby. Do not take paracetamol drug without asking your doctor if you are breastfeeding your baby. There are several pharmaceutical companies that make this drug with different brand names such as Panadol, Calpol. Paracetamol is the generic name or the approved name of the drug which can be selected for advertising so that people can learn it easily. Paracetamol generic is often used only when required, you may not have to take it if your condition is improved. If you are using this medicine regularly, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose of paracetamol generic and use your next dosage as directed by the physician. Do not take the extra drug to make up for a missed dosage.
